Do You “Ruff” Your Pet? Pick Up Holistic and Quality Products at Pet Supplied

Hey pet parents! As Petland Discounts on Manhattan Ave is closing shop, a new store has opened just two blocks away to fulfill all your pet spoiling needs. Pet Supplied (87 West St) carries holistic and quality pet food, treats, and a variety of specialty items like pet friendly CBD oil and natural products for pain and anxiety.

After serving the pet community for over 5 years online out of their Greenpoint warehouse, brothers Alex and Danny noticed that there wasn’t a place immediately around them, where people can “take a walk in the park, stop by the shop, ask questions, grab what they need, and go.” So they decided to open up their first brick & mortar shop to better connect with their customers. Customer service has always been their top priority and this was a way to meet people face to face along with their beloved pets. With years of experience and as pet parents themselves, Alex and Danny have a wealth of knowledge when it comes to pet products and they pay special attention to educating customers on what they are buying.

Alex and Danny are looking forward to meeting you and helping you find the best products for your fur babies. So stop by, say hi, and be sure to give them your feedback – they aim to make a more pleasant and satisfying shopping experience for their community and customers.

Mention “Greenpointers” and get a free bully stick or 10% off for first time customers!

Pet Supplied is located on 87 West Street and is open Monday-Saturday 10AM-7PM. Sundays from 10AM-6PM.

(Sponsored by Pet Supplied) Pet Supplied is a family owned and operated pet store that prides itself on making customer service its #1 priority. They carry only the highest quality products including holistic pet food & treats, CBD oil treats, frozen food, and more. They will stock with items by request as well as products for aquatic and small animals.

Rain can’t stop our love: A Most Radical Recap of Our Winter of Love Valentine’s Market

Winter of Market 2018 (photo: Julia Moak)

Bad weather be damned: Despite the blustery blues outside, thousands of you still made the trek to our Winter of Love Valentine’s Market this past Sunday. In fact, the Greenpoint Loft was made all the cozier by the rainy day outside, and the market was a blast. Attendees were rewarded with free tarot and henna not to mention an epic array of dope local vendors.

Y’all really took advantage of the photo booth, as well as the other gratis treats up in the mezzanine, including digital avatar creation and nail art. The vibes were just as radical as promised, and mugs of mulled hot cider with Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum and craft brew from Greenpoint Beer & Ale helped everyone keep in tune with the live music sets by Joata, Katy Rea, and the Morning Sea – all curated by Supercrush Studio. Solfire: A Shop to Set Your Soul Ablaze

Solfire interior
via Solfire

I’ve lived in Greenpoint for eight years and have always felt a void in wellness offerings.  Thankfully, that’s begun to change as juice bars, gyms, and yoga studios started blooming on almost every corner. The emergence of establishments like Lucent Yoga, Botica Apothecary, and Help Your Self is exciting. Until recently, the one thing still lacking was somewhere to buy workout gear. Not just sneakers or a jump rope, but truly functional, cutting-edge activewear. As a former apparel buyer turned full-time yoga teacher, I appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into a well-made pair of leggings or running shorts. What you wear when you workout can totally change your experience, as anyone who’s suffered from inner thigh chafing or bleeding nipples can attest!

On a recent morning jog, I was intrigued by a sleek silver sign that read: “Solfire.”  The storefront was a beacon of light on the once desolate stretch of Driggs Avenue from the south tip of McCarren Park to the Bedford L Train. I peeked in and saw a plethora of colorful capri pants and made a mental note to pop by during store hours. When I revisited the shop later that week, I was surprised to discover that Solfire (483 Driggs Ave.) was so much more than a clothing shop. Continue reading

Greenpoint’s Mom & Icepops Serves Up Crazy Flavors Like Roasted Tomato and Chipotle, Plum Violet and Rhubarb Lavender

Mom & Icepops, popsicles, pops

Owner and co-Founder of Mom & Icepops Eli Kaplan has exciting new flavors in the works and dreams of bringing  his unique brand of fresh, delicious, responsibly sourced popsicles to more New Yorkers. He’s currently seeking a company expansion to keep up with the supply and demand of his inventive and delicious treats. We chatted with Kaplan about how his pops are created, and what he’s looking to achieve in the growth of Mom & Icepops.

GP: Do you have any exciting new flavors in the works?

Eli: A bunch! Right now a flavor that has been getting a lot of positive feedback is the orange fennel. I’m also working on a roasted tomato and chipotle pop — it’s kind of savory and sweet. We also have a plum violet popsicle and rhubarb lavender pop when rhubarb is in season.  Continue reading

Women’s History Month – In Conversation With Meg McNeill

Meg McNeill © Fabian Palencia

The page on the calendar may have turned, but we had such a great response to our Women’s History Month interviews in March that we still have a couple of fantastic ladies to showcase throughout early April. This next profile took us to Dandelion Wine on Franklin Street on a quiet Monday night, to meet with the inimitable Meg McNeill, who was nominated for these reasons by her friend, Rachael:

Meg is an all-around wonderful person and especially awesome Greenpoint woman! She’s thoroughly involved in the neighborhood and Greenpoint community. From servicing it directly and providing us all with wonderful wine at Dandelion Wine, to supporting neighborhood businesses and friends, attending her friends’ music and art shows, to bringing a positive ‘tude to nearly every situation. PLUS she just became a Certified Sommelier, which is no small feat. All-around stand-up lady.

Meg opened a bottle of wine for us, set out some She Wolf Bakery bread for snacking, and a fascinating conversation followed with a very smart, warm, and funny neighborhood fixture. Continue reading
