🎶 Get Groovy with FREE Performances by JOATA, Katy Rea, and The Morning Sea at Our Winter of Love Market (Sun, 2/11) !

This weekend’s totally psychedelic Greenpointers Winter of Love Market at the Greenpoint Loft (67 West Street, 5th Floor) on Sunday February 11th (1pm-7pm) will feature three live music acts throwing down some groovy jams as the soundtrack to your eating, drinking, photobooth-ing, frolicking and shopping. And, did we mention it’s FREE? You can find out more details on our market vendors and special guests in this previous post.

Brooklyn-based JOATA will be jammin’ out the Market from 3pm-3:30pm. JOATA is Puerto Rican indie pop singer/songwriter Jose Oyola. His music blends Caribbean rhythms with hip hop and indie rock, with a fun bilingual flair. And many of his tracks have a definite 60s vibe, feelin’ like a stripped-down solo version of jangly peace-and-love rockers The Zombies or The Byrds.

From 4pm-4:30pm, you’ll get to hear singer songwriter Katy Rea, whose lyrics are both political and poetic. Her folksy crooning with mixed with a fire-y and rich indie pop sound is sure to put you in a nostalgic mood, proving that feminist rock n’ roll was definitely not just a 60’s and 70’s fad, (wo)man.

And to close out the flower power-filled day, The Morning Sea will treat everyone to their bluesy and folksy stylings—sort of a modern take on vintage Bob Dylan—from 5pm-5:30pm.

Suspects, Signage and Skyscrapers — The Hook-up (12/8)

Portable Train Signs
Via The NY Daily News

Here at Greenpointers, we’re gearing up for our Winter Candyland Holiday Market, and we hope you’ll join us on Sunday for the fun at the Greenpoint Loft (67 West Street). Meanwhile, around town, buildings are going up, criminals are being taken down, and the subway, as ever, is running with delays.

Most important, the NYPD has apprehended suspects in the last week’s violent robbery. The alleged attackers assailed a 61-year-old Greenpoint woman in the lobby of her building.

The case is being handled amidst changes at the 94th precinct, where Captain William E. Glynn has taken over command from Captain Pete Rose, who was promoted to Deputy Inspector.

Speaking of changes in the neighborhood, more permits have been filed for new towers on the Greenpoint waterfront, as industrial businesses in Williamsburg flee the neighborhood.

And, of course, the more things change, the more they stay the same, which means the subway is being held due to train traffic ahead of us. While many North Brooklynites decry the lack of an official contingency plan for fast-approaching L-pocolypse, some are spreading information about the system in a novel way. The NYC Train Sign Company in Bushwick is making subway countdown signs for homes and businesses based on real-time MTA data.
