The psalm says the Lord is our shepherd, and nobody seemed to know it better this week than the abandoned billy goat who took shelter under the steps of the Russian Orthodox Cathedral of the Transfiguration on North 12th and Driggs. Officer Jamar Ferguson, newly-dubbed official goatherd of the 94th Precinct, corralled the freelance goat into a cage and named him “Lil’ Ferg.”
Despite the appearance of a fugitive goat in North Brooklyn, and the abundance of urban farmers in the neighborhood, most New Yorkers don’t encounter livestock or draft animals during their workdays. Subway hounds are much more common animals. And according to a new report released Sunday by the city Comptroller’s office, subway delays are costing us nearly $390 Million a year! But, our own beloved G train was ranked the most favorable train in the system, with the fewest economic losses due to delays!
And for two New Yorkers there’s lots more to love in Greenpoint than the G Train. Andy Newman and Greenpointer Fran Pado met and fell in love on the banks of Newtown Creek, over a New York Times story on the planned 2001 demolition of the Maspeth Gas Tanks. The couple added another explosion to their relationship this weekend as they watched the controlled demolition of the old Kosciuszko Bridge on Sunday.
Not every Brooklynite found love last weekend, but some did find Paradise, the highly anticipated party at Brooklyn Mirage on Saturday courtesy of DJ and producer Jamie Jones.
And an East Williamsburg cyclist had the much less blissful experience of being hit by a car on Bushwick Avenue and Grand Street on Tuesday. The rider was taken to Elmhurst Hospital in critical condition.
