When beloved neighborhood joint River Styx closed two years ago, their nachos and Mexicali party option died with it. But the dish once touted as a runner up for “Best-Fancy Pants Nachos” by Serious Eats will be resurrected for one night only tonight (5/8) on River Styx’s 5 year anniversary of opening in what is now 21 Greenpoint (located on – you guessed it – 21 Greenpoint Ave)
According to chef and owner Homer Murray “Every day or so someone asks about the nachos which I loved and was very proud of but 21 Greenpoint just became another restaurant. A restaurant without nachos. I wanna celebrate how great Styx was and give the people what they want! So we are gonna bring the nachos back, all night. To celebrate Styx, to celebrate Greenpoint and to celebrate Fucking nachos.” Continue reading →
Greenpoint and North Brooklyn’s thriving restaurant scene has been turning (professional critic) heads for a while now, especially when it comes to the esteemed Michelin guide. Every year, their incognito inspectors scrutinize all the restaurants who’ve previously won either stars or bibs, plus all the newcomers. The bigger acclaim is when a restaurant wins coveted Michelin stars, from one to three and seemingly always the usual Manhattan high-end spots (those are announced next week). But the restaurants frequented by the hoi polloi aren’t left out. That’s where the Bib Gourmand comes in. This is where you can potentially get two courses and a glass of wine or dessert for $40 or less, before tax and gratuity. And this is where our local spots shine.
Local Hungarian wine importer Palinkerie is hosting a rosé party in the back room at 21 Greenpoint (21 Greenpoint Ave), from 8pm-12am tonight. Hungarian winemaker Tamás Dúzsi is in town and will be pouring his vineyard’s prettiest pinks. Pink tinsel will be thrown, rosé will be sloshed, and shenanigans are likely. Will Bill Murray be there? Probably not, but anything is possible.
$1 oysters, $5 beers, 2-for-1 cake slices, these are just some of the great happy hour deals we can find in North Brooklyn, each making the end of the day a little bit brighter. And now you can add 21 Greenpoint’s $15 pizza special to the list. This isn’t any old pizza, though, it’s star-shaped because really, we all deserve a star for making it this far. Continue reading →

There are exactly 10 cool things happening and around Greenpoint this weekend. Eleven if you count Bill Murray bartending at 21 Greenpoint, but that doesn’t count, does it? There are at least 10 cool things happening this weekend.
I double dog dare you to get to more than three of these events. Choose wisely!
We would be remiss if we didn’t mention some big Greenpoint news reported on alotofothersites, which is that Greenpoint restaurant River Styx (21 Greenpoint Ave.) is reopening as 21 Greenpoint this weekend after a closure and a fire. We said goodbye to their spectacular nachos weeks ago, and now Sean Telo, (previously executive chef at Extra Fancy, also a young’un), has taken over the kitchen, serving up fare sourced from local farms. Gone are the tiki-inspired drinks that led to a glorious headache the day after River Styx’s swan song closing party, and new beverage director is Sean McClure, who comes via Le Bernardin, Dirty French, and Daniel.
Oh, and the legendary Bill Murray will be tending bar at the revamped and renamed space, this Friday and Saturday night starting at 7pm. In case you needed another reason to check it out.
Update: Gothamist has reported that the restaurant will not be open to the public during this time.
