Adelina’s teams up with Archestratus for Perfect Pairing This Monday (6/18)

Swing by Adelina’s (159 Greenpoint Avenue) this Monday, June 18th, for a perfect pairing of all things Italian: chef Dustin Harder will team up with natural wine maker Joseph Pedicini to pair pistachio pesto arancini and a plant based carbonara pasta with vintage pinot noir and gewürztraminer wines!

The pairing stays perfect, and local, since Greenpoint foodie fave Archestratus Books & Foods (160 Huron St.) will be on hand selling copies of Harder’s “The Simply Vegan Cookbook.”  The first 10 books sold will be signed and and include a secret edible treat!

Seatings at 7 and 9. Walk-ins welcome at the bar. Each perfect pairing: $15. Make a reservation here!

Get Your Tickets to Sumo Stew Before It’s Fudadome (11/15)

All images courtesy of Sumo Stew

For the past few years, an under-the-radar celebration of all things sumo has been regularly taking place at Brooklyn Brewery. Hosted by photographer Michael Harlan Turkell and owner of The Brooklyn Kitchen Harry Rosenblum, the evening centers around chankonabe, the stew sumo wrestlers consume while training and a live stream of grand tournaments. But the stew isn’t all there is to eat, there’s bento boxes, Japanese whisky, shochu, sake, tea, and Brooklyn Brewery’s own beers on tap for every guest. And the 17th round of Sumo Stew is next Wednesday, the 15th. Continue reading

Eat Your Way Around the Neighborhood This Weekend

The Australians are coming to North Brooklyn Farms Sunday night

The Takedowns Have Come Home to Greenpoint

15 years ago, Matt Timms, a struggling actor, began hosting friendly chili cook-offs in his home, partly as a way to hang with friends on the cheap. The parties became popular enough that in 2005, he moved them to Bar Matchless, got 100 people to pay to eat chili, and thus the Takedowns began. Since then, the Takedowns have expanded and gone to other cities, but a few months ago, Matt brought them home to Greenpoint and the new Brooklyn Bazaar. And this month’s Takedown, happening next Sunday the 21st, is all about one of the best foods ever created on this Earth, tacos. Continue reading

They are welcoming the Instagram-famous Black Tap, yes, the same people behind those outrageous milkshake creations. Humboldt & Jackson is, of course, one of our neighborhood favorites, having been open for about 3 years and a generous host of many special events. The party starts tomorrow at 2 pm and we’ve know what they’ll be serving up. Continue reading

A Crafty Saturday at The Shanty Over Whiskey & Waffles

Whiskey_Waffles_Waffles
Waffles for Days

In the land of pairing food with libations, there are wine pairings and beer pairings but whiskey pairings? Apparently, this is considered “outré by many” but as I learned one late Saturday morning, whiskey not only serves as a pretty effective hair of the dog, but it goes really well with waffles. I’m talking the freshly made, thick, crispy, golden kind that is ready to be topped with piles of toppings like maple syrup, peanut butter, chocolate, whipped cream, and fruit. If you’re not groggy from food coma after this, you’ll ease into your lazy Saturday by sipping on Old Fashioneds. It gets your creative juices flowing before you start getting crafty.

At Pop ProductionsWhiskey Waffles Workshop, I got to see The Shanty (79 Richardson St) in a different light. Continue reading

Taste Talks knows the way to every hungover food-loving Brooklynite’s heart is through a drumstick on a waffle.

That’s how the third annual Taste Talks, a food and discussion festival at The Wythe Hotel, Kinfolk Studios and Colossal Media in Williamsburg, kicked off last Saturday.

You can’t go wrong with Pies-n-Thighs on the fryer, and waffles and syrup to drown out the pain of a long week. Continue reading

Taste Williamsburg Greenpoint Battled Rain with Booze & Cupcakes and Won

IMG_2577_500

This weekend, every outdoor NYC event, from the 90s Fest to the Taste Talks Barbeque, battled the kind of wicked New York rain that really unleashes its full furor when you’ve closed your umbrella for the fourth time and ventured out into the open.

This past Sunday’s Taste Williamsburg Greenpoint found its participants gamely laughing through the rain and sharing tent space with welcoming food vendors.
