A public forum on the construction progress of the new Greenpoint Library (107 Norman Ave.) will take place later this month.
The neighborhood’s only public library closed in July 2017 and construction was originally expected to finish in the winter of 2018, but the discovery and removal of asbestos in the former foundation and related delays have pushed the expected completion to this fall.
Come by the library on Saturday, March 25th from 10:30am-11:30am to learn how to join Friends of Greenpoint Library. Meet your neighbors, plan special events, and brainstorm ways to support the Greenpoint Library and its community. A branch library can have a greater impact when it has an active and vibrant friends group. If you love your local library and want to be more involved then this is the place for you!
With the amount of information available online, it’s easy to take our libraries for granted. Did you know that at one point the idea of a “library” didn’t even exist? Ben Franklin was hosting regular meetings with a group of friends (Junto), where they would discuss politics, philosophy and morality. During these meetings, the members would exchange books and information, and ultimately inspired Franklin’s plans for a public library. Fast forward a few centuries and now we have 87 public libraries in NYC, with one of them right here in Greenpoint.
Friends of Greenpoint Library is hosting a meeting where you can meet neighbors, brainstorm on ideas, and help find ways to support the Greenpoint Library (107 Norman Ave).
DATE: Today, April 9th TIME: 3pm LOCATION: Greenpoint Library (107 Norman Ave)
This is going to be a hard one. After 40 submissions, the Friends of the Greenpoint Library have selected 4 finalists and it’s time for you to put in your vote to “help” the judges decide which mural will adorn the exterior of the library. This is a survey, and “the results of this vote will help the Friends decide which design would best suit the community and the neighborhood.” Vote here and feel free to leave comments about which mural you want to win and why in the comments section below!
