We are sad to learn of Manny Franquinha’s passing via the Crest Hardware (558 Metropolitan Ave) Facebook Page. Crest has been open since 1962, and as a mom and pop harware store, they’ve been able to truly bring the community together over the years. Crest has an annual art show, and is also known for Franklin the potbelly pig, who often makes an appearance in their back garden. Crest is more than a neighborhood hardware store, and whenever you go in there to buy anything at all you feel personally attended to—something that was important to Manny when he founded the shop many years ago. Yes, this actually happened. On Sunday afternoon, a mailman found a couple naked and dead in their hot tub on Nassau Ave. An empty gallon of vodka was found nearby and according to authorities, the tub was still running.
And somehow the scenario gets even darker. Alicia Wieczorkiewicz and Jacek Crockiewitz, who were found facing each other in the tub, were not married. Crockiewitz’s wife showed up at the home later, stumbling upon what we can only assume was a very morbid and bizarre scene. Continue reading

It is with extreme sadness that we report that 32 year old Nicole Detweiler was killed last night on McGuinness Blvd and Nassau Ave in Greenpoint after being struck by two vehicles, a BMW and a box truck. The driver of the truck was arrested for driving without a license.

A man was killed after being electrocuted Monday morning while walking on the tracks near the Broadway G train stop … Matthew Zeno, 30, and another man were walking north on the southbound side of the subway, near Union Avenue, when Zeno paused to urinate and inadvertantly contacted the third rail, according to the FDNY and NYPD.
