The night, which will raise funds and awareness for Moms Demand Action, a division of Everytown for Gun Safety features performances from several bands, burlesque artists and thousands of dollars worth of raffle prizes. Plus, a photobooth and tattoo artists doing tattoos on-site of specially designed flash to benefit the cause, and there will be a speaker who survived the Las Vegas shooting.

Bottoms Up! Here’s to One Year of In-House Brewing at Keg & Lantern

Whilst the likes of Brouwerij Lane, Tørst and Dirck the Norseman have really put us on the map as a beer destination, less well-known is the fact that Nassau Avenue’s Keg & Lantern have their very own self-described ‘nano-brewery’ and that today marks their one-year anniversary of in-house brewing.

Last year owner Keiran Breen realized that the large basement below the bar was crying out to be put to use, so he placed an ad on Craigslist for an in-house brewer to come on board. He struck gold when he found Patrick Allen, an enthusiastic home-brewer who was ready to take his weekend hobby to the next level. Patrick promptly quit his job as manager of a fine art photographic printing studio, and set about upsizing his home-brewing knowledge to a far more commercial scale. Continue reading

The Art World Near You—A Weekend Adventure in Greenpoint

Summertime in the city, and Brooklyn is full of places to explore. Today, go to Brouwerij Lane to have a beer and check out Monte Antrim‘s neighborhood-friendly opening (6pm).  On Friday, stop by Java Studios Gallery for Katerina Ganchak‘s opening of delicate glassworks & paintings, “Just Feel” (6pm). On Saturday, drop by the Brooklyn Artists Alliance for Jason Roy‘s first solo-exhibition opening “NO (A Masterless Universe)” (7pm). Or, have a conversation with Jean-Pierre Gorin at Light Industry (7pm). Get lost in the streets but find yourself in the art.
