Now through October, free yoga classes are being offered in McCarren Park. The classes are located in the backyard of McCarren Parkhouse every Wednesday at 3 p.m. and are followed by a happy hour with a free drink from JuneShine, a hard kombucha brand.
“JuneShine has been working with the founders of Parkhouse for a while now,” said Heather Rogers, a representative from JuneShine. “We love what they do and saw so much potential to collaborate at Parkhouse.”
JuneShine and Parkhouse put their heads together to come up with a fun activity for the neighborhood to enjoy. “If you take a look around the park you see people working out, moms gathering with their babies, people just enjoying the sun. Yoga seemed like a great way to combine all of those things at once,” explained Rogers.
Not only are the yoga classes free, but they are taught by a certified instructor from YO BK, a yoga and pilates studio in Greenpoint owned by Kate Durand, who is also one of the owners of Greenpoint’s new restaurant, U Omakase.
All upcoming classes will be taught by yoga instructor, Charlotte Bagwell. “Shortly after moving to Brooklyn, I found a community and home at YO BK,” said Bagwell, who grew up in Dallas and has been practicing yoga since she was 14.
The yoga classes and happy hours will run until the end of October, weather permitting. Note that mats are not provided, so participants must bring their own. Sign up with Eventbrite here.
