Get ready because in just one week Greenpoint Open Studios (GOS) is returning to the neighborhood June 8th – 9th with more than 350 local artists opening up their studios to the public to showcase their works. What should you expect?

Greenpoint is one of the most creative neighborhoods in the city, with painters, sculptors, video and installation artists, photographers, printmakers, ceramicists, designers, architects and more calling this community their home. GOS gives everyone the opportunity to spend the weekend walking around the neighborhood, meeting our artists, viewing their works, and participating in workshops & special events hosted by local businesses, galleries, and community organizations. The event is free and open to the public!

Over one thousand people attended last year’s festivities, from lifelong residents to art students to blue chip gallerists and first time visitors to New York. “I really like that [GOS] is self-guided and you can go at your own pace” said Tytus Nowak. “I had so many interesting conversations with artists last year and really appreciated that. Also, I ended up buying a small glass sculpture directly from one of the artists which was really cool.”

Visitors can pick up free GOS Guides with a map and event schedule at any of the below 6 designated info hubs plus at various locations throughout North Brooklyn. Interactive maps are also available online.

  • The Lot Radio (17 Nassau Ave)
  • A/D/O (29 Norman Ave)
  • Van Leeuwen (620 Manhattan Ave)
  • Champion Coffee (1107 Manhattan Ave)
  • Artist & Craftsman (761 Metropolitan Ave)
  • Duke’s Liquor Box (114 Franklin St)

“For me, Greenpoint Open Studios is a chance to see what artists are working on and to meet new people, sometimes even on my own block,” said Alex L., “I’ve lived in the neighborhood since 2012 and it’s great to get that feeling of community and to put a name to a face.”

The weekend will kick off with a Launch Party on Friday, June 7th from 7:30PM-12AM at Brooklyn Bazaar (150 Greenpoint Ave). There will be live music, dancing, frozen cocktail specials, live painting, art installations, and video projections. The first 100 visitors will get a free swag bag of art supplies courtesy of Blick Art Materials.

On Saturday, June 8th  and Sunday, June 9th (12-6PM), the neighborhood will be full of activity as artists open up their studio spaces to visitors. “The event is kind of what you want to make of it, like a choose-your-own-adventure,” said Tim Byrne. “If you’re into painting, you can visit the painters. If you’re into photography, you can do a photography-only loop. Honestly I try to go see as much as possible since everyone is always very welcoming and friendly.”

On Sunday, June 9th (6:30–10PM), the weekend will close out with a Wrap Party at One Bedford (1 Bedford Ave), with watermelon soju cocktails, delicious food & drinks, and projections of artwork by GOS 2019 participants. “I’m really excited for next weekend,” said Izabela G. “It will be my first time visiting studios like this but I love art and want to learn more about it.”
