3rd Annual Kingsland Wildflowers Festival returns THIS SATURDAY! FREE to enter! (9/22)

Join Kingsland Wildflowers for a fun day celebrating their third season of programming, education, and research at Kingsland Wildflowers. Visitors can explore the half-acre, green roof habitat and native plant garden. North Brooklyn community organizations will be tabling and featuring activities to engage families and children. The festival offers an opportunity to learn about local environmental initiatives while exploring green infrastructure dedicated to native plants and birds.

2nd Annual Kingsland Wildflowers Festival Keeps Greenpoint Growing

Last Saturday, Kingsland Wildflowers (250 Kingsland Avenue) held its second annual Festival, an afternoon of food, drinks, music, family activities, bird watching, face painting, flowers and green roof tours, all free and open to the public. Local conservation groups including the GCEF, Newtown Creek Alliance and Open Space Alliance, shared information outside the Broadway Stages building that hosts Kingsland Wildflowers’ glorious green roofs, and up on the rooftops kids and adults gathered to enjoy the green space, and donned binoculars to enjoy the fabulous flora and excellent views.   Continue reading

Explore Kingsland Wildflowers’ Flourishing Green Roofs this Saturday (9/23)! Food, Beer, Talks, Tours & More!

Join The Kingsland Wildflowers Festival this Saturday, September 23rd (12-4pm) and explore three flourishing green roofs! Entering into its second year, the 22,000 square foot Broadway Stages’ rooftop space has been planted with a mix of indigenous grasses and wildflowers native to the New York landscape. Community organizations will be tabling and running activities to engage families and children. The festival offers access for Brooklyn residents to learn about environmental initiatives while exploring green infrastructure dedicated to native plants and birds.

Concerned Residents Meeting, That Cubbyhole Lifestyle, & BOOM! — The Hook-Up 09/23

Participatory budgeting meetings have been happening all week, and there’s more to come. You can submit your ideas here or attend a meeting in person (click here for a schedule). Get a piece of that $1.5 mil!

In light of several assaults that allegedly occurred near McGolrick park recently, a community meeting was held Thursday night at the Park Church Co-Op (129 Russell St.) Concerned citizens asked questions of several attending officers of the 94th Precinct and then brainstormed ways to make the community safer. Greenpointers attended the meeting and we will have an update coming soon!
