Did you enjoy that amazing mulled wine at the Holiday Market? It was made with mulling spices donated by Greenpoint’s favorite spice, seasoning and rub company. Greenpoint Trading Co.’s has just launched a kickstarter campaign. Their $30,000 goal will be to invest in a build-out of their warehouse, more machines for production, more inventory and more staff. With more inventory and manpower they can take on more customers and expand beyond the East Coast.
This Sunday December 14, 2014 from 1-4pm they will be having a fundraiser at Dirck the Norseman (7 No. 15th St). They will be giving away FREE BEER to anyone who donates to their cause. So donate!

The warehouse space the size of Rhode Island that served as mothership for the Northside Festival was the perfect place to first experience TheHÜB.
A striking modern sculpture and interacting (as opposed to interactive) space where participants of [email protected] could take a seat, drink free beverages, ask each other a million questions, check out trending topics, or be accosted by a blogger in search of quotes, TheHÜB calls attention to a need we didn’t know we had: The need to look up from social media and speak directly to the people around us more often (even if they appear to not be very into it at first).
When those people around us are obsessed with the same things we are it isn’t hard. Peter Raymond, the organizer of TheHÜB, says about Northside, “What we did was host impromptu gatherings and after speaking engagements. It was received very well and we have been invited to as far as Jordan and Greece to exhibit.”
If an inventor could create a device that converts sheer brain power into energy, said device should be brought to the Northside Entrepreneurship Festival next year. That inventor would take away enough energy to send a spaceship to Mars and back. It’s a given that this spaceship would update it’s Sonar status from the red planet, and have it’s own veggie garden on board.
I’ve never been to South by Southwest, the annual festival in Austin, Texas. But this day of discussion around sustainable business ideas that encourage community is exactly what I’ve always thought it would be like. But after this one, I could travel home on foot and sleep in my own bed that night.
It may be off the beaten path, but the best things in life don’t just land on your corner. A new bakery called Ovenly opened last Friday on Greenpoint Ave between West St and the East River, near the soon to open Transmitter Park. If you haven’t stopped in yet, you are majorly missing out on biscuit perfection and cupcake elegance, not to mention cookie genius. And they have savory treats, too! Agatha and Erin, the ladies behind this recent start-up began their company right out of Paulie Gee’s kitchen, where I am convinced a little fairy lives whose magic wand turns food start-ups into major successes. Bacon Marmalade, Sea Bean Goods & Mike’s Hot Honey all began beside that big pizza oven, as well.
We’ve all been there, working away for hours, focused on only the task at hand – maybe staring at a computer screen as we write, maybe it’s hours bent over jewelry wire, or time spent standing in front of a canvas. And then we look up and realize it’s 4PM and all we’ve eaten all day was that bagel with our morning coffee. That we’ve been in the same position for hours.
Friends, this is no way for a creative entrepreneur to live!

Brian Binsack, 30, is one of four owners of The End New York in Brooklyn, a new multifunctional creative facility, which combines professional recording and photo studio and a rehearsal room. It has a rooftop space for social event rentals and even art-gallery with paintings and sculptures of contemporary artists.
Binsack signed a lease for the space at the western waterfront on Greenpoint Avenue in February this year, and held the first arts event in May 2011. Later in the fall, the End New York finished the latest makeover works and organized a launch party to introduce their latest addition, a new performance venue.
Binsack is a professional composer converted into a businessman. In a short interview he describes his journey from music to entrepreneurship and approach in making a successful startup in New York City.
