Following Jen’s lead on Monday, I’ve got more love here for The Bounty, plus a recipe! On my last visit there, surveying the menu my eyes immediately closed in on the dessert section. Sour Cherry Far Breton? Could my eyes be deceiving me? I can’t recall ever seeing a Far Breton on a menu in Brooklyn, but it is this dessert about which I dream. I had hit the jackpot.
Enid’s is the first restaurant in Greenpoint I noticed before I ever imagined I would live here or run Greenpointers. I remember thinking, “that place is cu-ute.” Despite that it never became my regular spot even though so many friends swear by it. They also have some awesome events, like the Annual Pie Bake-Off and in the winter they have a Snowflake Making night. I also feel like I never hear about the events, but if I was a regular I would know. It’s that kind of place.
After a photo exploration with my photographer amigo Miguel, we stopped in for a meeting with Jeanne Hilary another wonderful photographer and founder of Bicycle Utopia. Don’t know about it? You should know about it.
It was a great spot for informal day drinking introductions – next to the big bright window facing Manhattan Ave with a view of one of my favorite installations – the golden camel.
Before I get into the burger, I will preface it by saying that I screwed up the order and when it arrived without cheese and avocado I asked if they wouldn’t mind melting some cheddar on top. They were sweet hearts about it. I am trying to keep an even playing field among the veggie burgers, and it’s a back-up in case it isn’t that amazing – cheese and avocado make everything okay, you see?
I am not sure if reheating had anything to do with it, but the burger had major mush factor. I appreciate that they make it in house and could see the fresh chopped vegetables and peas in the patty, but there was hardly any flavor to it. I kind of pushed it around on my plate. Veggie burger fail.
The fries were good old crispy salty fries and the afternoon of talking cameras and drinking beer was stand-out.
Until next week…
Tomorrow – Sunday July 21st at 6pm begins the first in our monthly series of Sunday Night Guest Grilling at The Exley (1 Jackson St). We are pleased to have “Our Good Friend’s Mother” come by for some home cooked Caribbean food.
Be there for Jerk Burgers, Shrimp Kabobs, Trini-Style Boiled Corn and slightly cooler weather! Items can be purchased a la carte although we strongly encourage you to spring for an exceptionally large meal made up of each individual dish.
As we always do on Sundays, we’ll be serving from the best cocktail and craft beer lists in the neighborhood, hosting our very competitive Sidewalk cornhole tournament (look it up, it’s SFW we promise), and looking forward to meeting some new people.

Sunday Supper #2 was smooth sailing and an amazing night at B’s Luncheonette. There is something magical about having dinner in a place for just one night. So many people stopped in to ask hopefully whether the restaurant would be opening up. We all wish!
Chef Tony was so uber prepared, with a check list and everything. We had the right amount of plates and seating, and the ambience created with just some white christmas lights is key. Although the heat didn’t seem to be pumping, the vibes were warm and great.
The amount of food was spot on, too. The creamy iceberg wedge salad topped with bacon was incredible. The BBQ sliders with a side of home fries were delicious, and the dessert a boozy banana shake was a nice finish. What a perfect night!
When we visited Florida we drove up the middle of the state to see some birds at Lake Okeechobee. We got in late and our options were: Taco Bell, McDonalds, Burger King, Wendy’s and Black Gold Steakhouse. We obviously ate at Black Gold and enjoyed deep fried green beans. The next day we had breakfast at Ding-A-Ling Deli. Otherwise, the options for shit food were endless.
On a typical Friday night in Greenpoint, while figuring out where to go to eat or get a drink with friends, I always step outside myself and view the conversation from above and we always sound like a bunch of spoiled assholes. It goes like this:
“Are you crazy? It’s 8pm!”
“I just ate there for lunch yesterday.”
“I’m a vegan.”
“Not in the mood for piano.”
“Kind of far to walk.”
“Can’t eat the noodles upstairs after 8.”
“I can see it, there’s a line.”
“I have a gluten allergy.”
“I want a cocktail.”
This can go on forever, because the list of amazing options we have to chose from is endless in Greenpoint. When we get into this spoiled circle jerk I now say, “At least it’s not Lake Okeechobee!”
As reported by EATER, we can add two more anticipated to be awesome options on our list. Down Greenpoint Ave, near Transmitter Park, the owners of Roebling Tea Room plan to open River Styx in April.
On Manhattan Ave, near Enid’s, a famous Danish Brewer named Jeppe Jarnit-Bjergsø and Daniel Burns of Momofuku are opening a brew pub with Scandanavian food called Tørst.
And don’t forget, Andrew Tarlow’s Achilles Heel is now open on West and Green St.
