A new California-themed wine bar is opening today on Manhattan Avenue in Greenpoint.
Coast and Valley (587 Manhattan Ave.) will exclusively carry and serve wine from the golden state that can be ordered by taste, glass, or bottle.
The dining room features wooden tables and bright colors that evoke the simplified elegance of the Pacific coast with 34 seats between the bar and tables that have partial bench seating against the wall.

The food options at Coast and Valley are also California-inspired, “but in that all-day Silver Lake way, not in that Balsamic gastrique way,” a PR rep for the business explained in a statement.
The food offerings consist of small and medium-sized plates meant to complement the wine or to be combined into a larger meal; “the food will reflect the seasons and use both local and clean produce and products wherever humanly possible.”
Diners at brunch can expect wholesome dishes like poached chicken with avocado and charred cucumber with ginger and buttermilk sauce or buckwheat pancakes with cardamom, butter, and maple syrup.

For heartier dinner options, there’s the crispy chicken thigh and drumstick with lentils, maitake mushrooms, frisse and honey chile-sesame oil, and the crispy jasmine rice with Cara Cara oranges, walnut, and mint.
Business and life partners Stephanie Watanabe and Eric Hsu conceived the idea of Coast and Valley from their experience living and working in California’s Bay Area.
Hsu is a bit of a wine industry insider as is a co-founder of Wine Direct, a logistics and e-commerce platform in the wine industry. Watanabe learned about service and wine as an event producer in the Bay Area.
