Mural on Greenpoint Library by Leslie Wood

Last Spring I noticed a photocopied “Call For Mural Artists” for the Greenpoint Library. I couldn’t find anything online about it and I really thought every artist in Greenpoint should have a shot at this amazing opportunity so I transcribed the entire document and posted it on the blog. There were many amazing entries and after a final round of community votes, Leslie Wood won!

Now her mural is complete and she wrote in to tell us about it. Take a stroll down Norman and see it for yourself.

Greenpoint Library Mural by Artist Leslie Wood

We spoke with Leslie about what the mural means to her:

I’m so thrilled to have had the opportunity to paint the library in my neighborhood of Greenpoint.  I love living here and it was wonderful to interact with so many kind people who passed by as I worked on the mural.  I wanted to celebrate and encourage the simple act of sitting quietly and enjoying a good book… I also wanted to thank you because I first heard about the contest through the Greenpointers website, so none of this would have happened without you.

Congratulation Leslie – we love it!
