Craft Beer, Haiku, Strawberry Gin, Face Painting, Electric Wildflowers, 60+ Vendors, & more!!! Spring Market (4/26)

Spring-Market_noaddress_235pxThe late great Robin Williams once said “Spring is nature’s way of saying ‘Let’s party!'”  So we’re thinking this year’s brutal winter overstayed its welcome as nature’s cue for a massive celebration.

Celebrate Spring with us on Sunday, April 26th, 2015, 1-7PM at the Greenpoint Loft (67 West St, 5th Fl).

We’ll have plenty of Strawberry Gin courtesy of Brooklyn Gin and craft beer by Greenpoint Beer & Ale on the ready for toasting throughout the day. Specially brewed for this market is “Rabbit Island,” a modern New Zealand inspired pilsner with tropical fruit notes and white grape.  It will be served alongside “Fisticuffs,” a malty, creamy, easy day drinking English dark mild with hints of cocoa and bread crust.  Continue reading

Nail Art Celebrity on Nassau: Freckle

This article made possible by a donation to the Writer’s Fund Raffle by Dalaga.

© Claire Beaudreault

A few weeks ago the L Magazine ran a feature of the top five places to get your nails done in Brooklyn. Sadly, it overlooked Freckle Salon’s very own Claire Beaudreault, one of Greenpoint’s most exciting emerging nail artists since Ria Lopez of Nail Art by RiaClaire is the cool girl on the block who will make you tea, paint something amazing like tiny cats on your nails (or in my latest experience, pink ombre) and leave you feeling like you can point at world with very beautiful fingers and know exactly what you want from it. She fits right in at Freckle, which from Greenpointer’s prior coverage you’ll recall is the salon you’d hoped one day would open in our neighborhood. Continue reading

Last Stop (for now): HQ Nails

This is my final nail report for a while. Man, it’s expensive, especially with the gel habit I developed. Plus I want to “air” them out, let them breathe. My last stop before our amazing trip to Florida was H&Q on Manhattan Ave where I got my Florida Sunrise Nails.

By this point, I was pretty picky with my nail selections, and by picky I mean outrageous. My thinking is if gel is going to last for two weeks then I am going to make it count. I think I was heavily influenced by a stack of belts I photographed at work color wise for this set. (Belts inspire me? I think I need to career make-over.) Continue reading

Nails Did: Lilysa Nails

Finding the next nail spa for my mani-pedi tour is as easy as taking a stroll down Manhattan Ave. There are two for every block. It was on the early side, before 10am and I walked by the place where I lost my gel manicure virginity. I saw her; Helen at Green Point Nails, Inc. She was cleaning and I wanted her – to do my gel nails proper, but I have a commitment to my nail readers. So I moved on.

I found Lilysa Nails. It was empty, but the lady in charge seemed out of sorts. It’s a new nail joint, clean and lacking in amazing nail posters; they did have a strange hand mannequin. Continue reading
