Thanksgiving Meat and Cheese Plate by Greenpoint Meat & Cheese (192 Driggs Ave)

Thanksgiving has always been a good excuse to pile on some good ole classic American dishes and stuff myself silly until I can’t move. But I’ve always done all the cooking and this year, I just don’t feel like getting my hands dirty with the Turkey baster. So what does a lazy Greenpointer do on one of the best holidays of the year? Spend it at any of these five local spots, walking distance away. Continue reading

Calling all Volunteers! N. Brooklyn’s PRIDE Festival Needs Our Help!

PRIDE_Animation

Hey hey Greenpointers! Have you got your bells on yet? If not, you better do it soon because Williamsburg’s  first ever Gay Pride Festival is popping this Saturday, June 20th, and trust us you’re not going to  want to miss this event!

A couple of weeks back we let you all know many people in the hood thought it was high time North Brooklyn had their own gay affair to remember. A who’s who of list of awesome local businesses have stepped up to the plate and are hard at work behind the scenes to make this Saturday’s event a raging success.

But as a media sponsor of the North Brooklyn’s Gay Pride Festival, we here at Greenpointers would be remiss if we didn’t let our kind readers know, this event is in desperate need of our help.

Right now, at this very moment, festival organizers are on the hunt for volunteers. Whether you are straight or gay, lesbian or asexual, it doesn’t matter. All they need are kind souls willing to spare a few hours to help make Saturday’s festival a success.

As of now event organizers are looking for help in the following areas:

  • Setting up and breaking down tables before and after the event
  • Be a point person during the festival and help answer questions
  • Help selling various merchandise

If you have a free set of hands and are willing to donate a few hours to make this an insanely awesome event, organizers would love to hear from you.

Shoot an email to [email protected]  for further details.

For all other information about the North Brooklyn Pride Festival, including times for kid’s activities, where to indulge in adult libations, or simply to check out what cool things will be happening  this Saturday June 20th, on North 11th Street  visit http://www.northbrooklynpridefest.com/

See you all there!

It may be November already, but that’s absolutely no excuse to go into hibernation. There’s plenty of reasons to get out of the house at the weekend, including this excellent one from the folks at The Water Table who are serving weekend brunch and dinner onboard their 70 year old ex-navy boat ‘The Revolution’.

Captain Kelli Farwell and first mate Sue Walsh are behind the floating feast, which runs as a cruise from India Street Pier, and recently returned from the upper east side which served as a temporary location while the Greenpoint jetty was under repair. Continue reading

Firefighters are suing the city because they allege that Ladder 146 in Greenpoint is anti-Muslim and anti-Hispanic.

Brooklyn’s first dinner boat, “The Water Table” a World War II-era ship that will be serving up seasonal New England cuisine, launches this Friday from the India Street pier.  (Brownstoner)

And finally, if you’re not doing anything tonight, you can head to Noble Street, get a drink, eat Latkes and listen to some live Chanukah jazz music.  (Brokelyn)
