There’s been a lot happening in the food world, Greenpointers! Let’s play catch up.

First off, Bushwick’s famed Roberta’s (261 Moore Street) has sure come a long way from making their pizzas on a portable grill, jailhouse decor and topless servers—they are officially coming to the Williamsburg waterfront, in the new Domino complex. We can expect them to open in Fall 2019. Continue reading

Going Vegetarian in North Brooklyn

As a foodie who is also a devoted animal lover, I found I was constantly at odds with myself. I had an intense love for charcuterie but also a deep admiration and respect for pigs. I started my journey by giving up pork products. After just a couple of weeks, I thought, gosh, cows are lovely too–if I’m so fond of cows, how can I justify eating them? I find seitan disgusting and I’m firmly opposed to faux-sausages. Why fake it when there are so many delicious vegetable-forward dishes out there? Continue reading

Is Greenpoint better off than it was 10 years ago? Are hipsters more like termites or ants? Depends on who you ask. Curbed ran a thoughtful rebuttal to Wired’s “before and after” photo essay bemoaning the effects of gentrification, which, if we’re being fair, is sometimes a careful architect and not so much a destructive force of nature.

Uh oh, G Train trouble! A derailment last night near Hoyt-Schermerhorn is what’s causing your limited service woes today.

If you didn’t already know, Beloved is no longer. For what it’s worth, it was the one place in town where you could get negronis on the house on the occasion of the bartender’s dog’s birthday. The dog’s name was Negroni.

Two weeks ago Greenpoint’s spiritual center, The Golden Drum, celebrated its fourth anniversary and invited Greenpointers along for the fun. Having never heard them before, naturally we here at the news desk were intrigued. Armed with curious minds and hearty dose of New York instilled skepticism, the fabulous Julia Moak and I visited the Golden Drum to see what the center was all about and why it was attracting all these shiny happy people.  Continue reading

“Wow,” someone said as I waited in line on opening day. “I’m not even a vegetarian, but there’s definitely way too much bacon in this area. This is a relief.”

Jungle Cafe (996 Manhattan Ave) is certainly a relief for the vegetarians and vegans of North Brooklyn. But fortunately it’s also incredibly delicious and so comes as a welcome addition to the rest of us as well. Continue reading
