March was our floating deadline for our Neon Documentary but in order to get everything just right and to submit the film to some MAJOR film festivals we aren’t rushing it and we plan on doing some more shooting while we continue editing. Continue reading
Last Friday night we were so excited to light our Greenpointers Neon Sign. Ain’t she a beaut? Thanks to everyone who donated and made this beautifully crafted piece of art a reality. And thanks to Robbie Ingui of Artistic Neon for doing such a badass job. The sign will be on display at our Holiday Market on 12/8/13! Come by a check it out.
Watch my Thank You video, too… Continue reading
Greenpointers sought music from a local band to be used in the promo video for our Neon Kickstarter Project – since the documentary itself is ALL ABOUT local talent.
If you haven’t watched the video, you should do that here. Besides hopefully convincing you to chip in, you can also hear an absolutely fantastic song called “Be Where You Are” by the duo Astra Via. Members Olivia Mancini and Jarrett Nicolay live in Brooklyn and DC, respectively. The band started in the same place when Olivia reached out to Jarrett after hearing his solo record about three years ago. Astra Via, which means road to the stars, has since become a creative project over a distance once Olivia moved to New York. Despite that, they have kept working and just put out a new EP called Echo Birds. Check it out here.
Olivia and Jarrett were gracious enough to answer a few questions about the song, neon signs, and Greenpoint.
Good morning! While out last night celebrating Director Miguel’s birthday at Manhattan Inn, I got an alert on my phone announcing that our Kickstarter Fundraiser for our Neon Sign Documentary was 100% funded! It was such a proud and exhilarating and relieving moment and wonderful that Miguel and I could toast the success on his birthday!
I want to thank everyone who supported by donating and sharing the project. We obviously could not have done it without you all – our awesome friends, family and readers! It’s not just Miguel and I making this documentary – it’s all 74 backers who are making it happen. The crowd support is so motivating. We will work on a more formal thank you in video form – so stay tuned for that next week.
What’s next? Well now we are getting the Greenpointers Neon Sign and making a great documentary about it. Oh and we will be sending you your rewards, too! We can’t forget the goodies…
Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to work hard on creating the documentary.
If you want to make a donation, there are 2 days left to donate, and we could certainly use any funding over our goal as things keep coming up, like the need for more hard drive space and costs associated with travel to do pick-up shots.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
As we approach the final days of our fundraising campaign for our Neon Sign Documentary, it feels like it’s all coming together. The more footage we get, the more interviews we do and the more friends we make along the way not only help us hone in on what the point of this documentary is, but how meaningful of an experience it has already been and we are just at the beginning stages.
First off I am so honored to work on this project with my best friend and brother from another Chilean mother Miguel. Today is his birthday! We have been through a lot in the past 6 years we have known each other, and I am so lucky to have him in my life and be able to collaborate on such a fun documentary. I think this is just the beginning for us. Continue reading
I want to thank everyone who has contributed to our Greenpointers Neon Sign Documentary on Kickstarter. We are at $1972 and our goal is $3000. We have less than one week to raise a little over $1000!
Below are updates to our project. We have begun filming, which has been a blast and once completed there will be a lot of editing to do, which is time consuming and costly. If we reach our funding goal, our plan is to hire a professional film editor to work on the film. After working so hard to film this perfectly we want to make sure the final product is edited just as beautifully.
A friendly little nudge for all you procrastinators: please help fund our documentary – it’s going to be so great – plus the rewards for donating rule!
DEADLINE: THIS SUNDAY NOVEMBER 10th!!!
Remember, if we don’t reach the funding goal – we get zero dollars. That would be so sad.
This past week we filmed Fabio, the owner of Ear Wax Records, who recently moved locations from the mini-mall on Bedford Ave to a new shop on No. 9th St in Williamsburg. He hired Robbie Ingui of Artistic Neon to make a neon sign for his shop. The purpose of this interview was to get a perspective from a local businesses owner who chose to get a neon sign for his business and to get it done locally. Fabio was great on camera and had a lot of feedback for us. Plus his neon sign rules! Continue reading
Here is a little teaser we made to give you an idea of how AWESOME our Greenpointers Neon Sign documentary will be! If you want to see the full documentary then please make a donation in any amount to our fundraiser – so you can be a part of this awesome project. We will be forever grateful – thanks in advance… NEON!
We have less than 2 weeks left and are halfway there! Learn more about our project on Kickstarter.
I know I know… you want to know the goodies for donating to our Greenpointers Neon Sign Documentary Kickstarter Project, so I figured I’d start our by pimping out my new dog “D.”
We have stickers, magnet, tote bags and tee shirts with this cool neon logo… (Dog not included). We are also sending out Thank You postcards with an original photo from the film, signed by the creators of the documentary – Miguel A. Rodriguez and myself.
We are excited to host exclusive screenings of the documentary and are having a “Lighting Party” at Robbie Ingui’s Neon Shop in Ridgewood. That will be a crazy party and I am making rice balls…
Thanks in advance for all the support. We cannot wait to make this documentary!
Please consider making a donation in any amount to Greenpointers Neon Kickstarter Project!
Even though our Kickstarter launch was delayed, we’ve started on filming, positive that we will raise the funds for our Neon Sign Documentary.
This weekend we packed up Robbie’s van (he is the Neon Sign Maker star of our film) – with all the film equipment, plus three doggies and took a fun road trip to meet Robbie’s parents in Monticello, NY. The ride up was scenic, full of peak fall foliage – and a stinky slobberfest! Not only are we learning about Neon, we are making wonderful friends through this process.
As we drove down the driveway up to the quaint lake house, we spotted his Dad Gaspar, an 85 years old man, up on a ladder in the front of the house fixing the awning. Full of energy and great stories, his pep didn’t give out the entire day.
Read on to find out about this sweet Cat Sleeping on Bear Woodwork!
Today we are heading up to the Catskills to meet Robbie’s father, who founded Artistic Neon over 40 years ago and taught Robbie everything he knows about Neon Sign Making. We are loading up into Robbie’s van with his two dogs and our pooch (that should smell great). Maybe we will see some neon fall foliage. Plus, we hear that Robbie’s Mom is going to prepare us some lasagna! Needless to say it should be a fun day. Check out Instagram #greenpointers_neon for some fun shots of our shooting day upstate!
Since we launched our Kickstarter project on Monday we have raised $591 of our $3000 funding goal and we have 22 days left. Please help us fund this project!
