Do We Need More Bike Racks In Greenpoint?

In typical March yo-yo weather style, we started to feel the warm dawn of spring when temps climbed to 70 degress, and then two weeks later the weather snapped back into a brilliant frost. At any rate, very soon we’ll be entering bicycle season. (Although of course for some of us it’s year round). We’ve examined the various types of bike racks along Manhattan Avenue, one of Greenpoint’s main bicycle thoroughfares, and the ways you can petition for more racks.

Is one of Greenpoint’s most unexpected features—a stretch of historic wooden block paving on West Street near the Greenpoint Terminal Market—in imminent danger? Many say that this is the last place where original wooden paving exists in New York City. These blocks are so rare that one from this section of sidewalk is included in the collection at The City Reliquary. But a new bike path down West Street could mean this final vestige of obscure New York City history will be put on the chopping block. Continue reading

Yana (Obviously) Bikes and Tells For Brooklyn Cruiser While Repping Greenpoint Hard

Originally posted on Brooklyn Cruiser:

“One thing about living in Brooklyn — there are always a lot of neighbors to love.  But every once in a while, you meet that one who’s got the je ne sais quoi thing going in spades.  Enter Yana.  She lives in Greenpoint, bikes Greenpoint like it’s falling off the map, contributes to Greenpointers, and more or less embodies everything there is to crush on about the nabe.

But part of being a local in these parts means embracing the world beyond — The almighty commute factors into Yana’s lifestyle (she works in Soho, “and I absolutely love it.”), as does keeping her heritage close by way of spreading some culinary delight (She does a quarterly pop-up Filipino dinner called SALO — click that, for sure!)”
