A longtime Greenpoint Italian restaurant is making some changes to their menu to start the new year after transitioning the restaurant to a 100 percent plant-based menu.
Adelina’s (159 Greenpoint Ave.) transitioned to a fully vegetarian and vegan menu last year and as of January 1st, the restaurant has stopped making their usual pizza fritta (fried pizza) and is now focused on a style of pizza known as pinsa Romana made with fermented dough.
This style of pizza is light in gluten with a crust that is crispy on the outside, fluffy in the middle and “much more digestible than a standard pizza due to the minimum 48 hour fermentation and very high hydration,” according to Adelina’s owner Toby Buggiani.
Pizza offerings on the new menu are split between vegan and vegetarian options and range in price from $11 for the la Marinara (double sauce, fried caper & oregano) to $17 for the la Burrata pizza (sauce, topped with post oven pesto, stracciatella & arugula).
Look out for their rotating list of natural wines and their “Meet the Wine Maker” sessions, usually held on Wednesday nights.
Swing by Adelina’s (159 Greenpoint Avenue) this Monday, June 18th, for a perfect pairing of all things Italian: chef Dustin Harder will team up with natural wine maker Joseph Pedicini to pair pistachio pesto arancini and a plant based carbonara pasta with vintage pinot noir and gewürztraminer wines!
The pairing stays perfect, and local, since Greenpoint foodie fave Archestratus Books & Foods (160 Huron St.) will be on hand selling copies of Harder’s “The Simply Vegan Cookbook.” The first 10 books sold will be signed and and include a secret edible treat!
Seatings at 7 and 9. Walk-ins welcome at the bar. Each perfect pairing: $15. Make a reservation here!
Tonight, Adelina’s (159 Greenpoint Ave.) is hosting a five course vegan prix fixe benefiting Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary hosted by Walter Schreifels who wrote Cats & Dogs—a Gorilla Biscuits song considered to be one of the seminal New York Hardcore songs about animal rights.

Clara Cakes CookBook Pop-Up Adelina’s | 159 Greenpoint Ave.
19-year old LA chef Clara Polito will be in Greenpoint today to celebrate her new vegan dessert book. She’ll be serving up some of her amazing vegan cannoli & cakes and a pizza special at Adelina’s (159 Greenpoint Ave.) tonight from 7:30pm-10:30, . No tickets required, just show up hungry!
Toby Buggiani describes his 4-year-old wine bar and restaurant as “a tiny, quirky space” where he gets elbow-deep in pizza dough and fresh vegetables on the daily. It’s a quiet little nook in Greenpoint (159 Greenpoint Avenue) where the things he loves can thrive: inventive art, plant-based cuisine, natural wine, and an ethos rooted in simplicity.
Adelina’s is a fairly young restaurant, but its story began back in the 1980s between the street art scene in Greenwich village and a humble kitchen outside of Tuscany.
“Most of what we do here is rooted in my history and what I believe in. Arthas a lot to do with that, actually,” Buggiani explains. “I was born in Italy, but we moved to New York City in the late 1970s for my father’s work as a painter, sculptor, and performance artist. I pretty much grew up in Greenwich village during the late 80s and early 90s surrounded by a lot of artists and musicians, friends of my parents and so on.” Continue reading →
Adelina’s is putting on another pop-up Meatless event, this time collaborating with Mississippi Vegan‘s Timothy Pakron for a truffle-themed dinner. Greenpointers chatted with Adelina’s Toby Buggiani about the mycological meal that he and Timothy have planned. Who doesn’t want truffles on everything, especially Italian food?

Puffer jackets at the ready…this week’s gonna be a chill one with temperatures rumored to be dropping down to the 30’s by midweek. Brrrrrr. Fortunately our favorite neighborhood Italian Adelina’s has added some excellent new dishes recently and they are exactly the kind of thing we want to be eating on a cold winter night, washed down with a nice glass of red from one of the many wine casks that line the walls of the restaurant.
What’s the best part of a long weekend? An extra day of brunch. That’s why we’re very happy that Adelina’s is throwing a super festive brunch in honor of Memorial Day, which will be accompanied by live jazz (from12-4pm). That’s right, they’re having a JAZZ BRUNCH, which we whole heartedly support and recommend attending after you watch the parade swing down Manhattan Ave.
AND there will be 2 for 1 organic prosecco mimosas all weekend (made with fresh squeezed OJ). If you can’t make it on Monday, brunch will strill be going strong Sat & Sun. Adelina’s will also be introducing some new menu items to their already swell menu, including fresh juices, vegan waffles and a delicious-sounding salumi & scrambled eggs entree. YUM. Enjoy.
Call me ignorant but, until recently, I wasn’t remotely aware that most wine production is largely un-vegan.
This changed when I paid a visit to Adelina’s (159 Greenpoint Ave.) to sample a glass from their newest wine casks and Toby, the lovely owner, told me that their new Chianti is not only produced in an organic way but it is also vegan, to which I expressed some surprise. Aren’t all wines vegan? Isn’t that the joy of grapes? Apparently not. But given the way that vegan friends of mine happily knock back any wine available, I had a hunch that they weren’t in on this fact either. Continue reading →
