Natural Garden supermarket (750 Manhattan Ave.)

The independent supermarket Natural Garden (750 Manhattan Ave.) will close in the coming weeks and is the process of clearing out store stock with sales on most store items.

Signs posted in the front windows state that grocery prices are marked down 20 to 50 percent. A 74-year-old employee told Greenpointers on Monday that the store would close in “two-to-three weeks” and that decreasing business due to increased online shopping negatively impacted the supermarket’s bottom line.

  1. So sad they’re closing! They’ve been a mainstay for me for many years. I especially liked that they were open late in the evenings. It’s strange they’re struggling in light of how many newcomers there have been to the neighborhood in the last few years. There’s certainly been times, however, where the store has been pretty empty and I’ve been the only customer in there. Here’s to hoping that the Associated Supermarket one block to the north will expand their hours, as I imagine they’ll get a slight boost in traffic.
