Kid and Playspace will return this weekend with a play session on Saturday, September 21, from 3:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. inside the gymnasium of Our Lady of Mount Carmel (1 Havemeyer St.) following a successful test-run last spring.
The independent, community-based playspace for young children ages 0-6 was started by North Brooklyn-based parents; play sessions are currently scheduled for select Saturdays beginning this weekend through March 28th, signup for the mailing list here.
The cost per play session is $12 ($10 per sibling) and playtime features an assortment of toys (ride-on, push and pretend toys along with tents and tunnels, etc). Kid and playspace will also host activities from various neighborhood businesses throughout the year.
The playspace came to fruition after local parents took action over the lack of affordable and accessible spaces for their children to play in North Brooklyn.
“It came about because we all have three-year-olds with a lot of energy and no place to displace it, so we just decided to create one, and the people at Mt. Carmel have been really great to work with us and letting us in their space for a spring run,” founder Kristin Sears told Greenpointers ahead of the initial launch last winter.
