Hey, Greenpoint! Hope you’re keeping warm in this frigid weather, and enjoying the swing time between Christmas and the New Year. You might be merry, but the news cycle was biblical. Both Loaves and Fishes were in the spotlight.
Up first, lovely loaves. A bread crawl through NYC (via Singapore!) finds the best bread in all boroughs at Torst (615 Manhattan Avenue). The Greenpoint Sour and Russian Rye got special shoutouts!
As for Fishes: Greenpoint Fish and Lobster (114 Nassau Ave) hosted its 3rd Annual Feast of the Seven Fishes Dinner on Christmas Eve. The dinner is an Italian-American Christmas tradition. And it wasn’t just diners at the restaurant who were feasting. According to News 12, Greenpoint Fish and Lobster sold 100 pounds of fish, more than 100 lobsters and almost 1,000 clams in the two days before Christmas Eve to neighbors looking to make their own holiday meals.
But, not every restaurant in Greenpoint felt such loving vibes over the holiday. In fact, Peking Express (237 Nassau Avenue) was robbed of $1,200 on Christmas Eve. Police are asking the public to help identify the perpetrator.
And from the holiday table to the sidewalk: Real Estate. Permits have been filed for a four story residential building at 396 South 5th Street.
Speaking of buildings, Bedford and Bowery offers a deep dive into the History of Warsaw (261 Driggs Avenue).
And rounding off the news, Newtown Creek Alliance reports that it has identified and mapped over 100 plant species along the creek’s shoreline this year.
