This past weekend the Five Boro Bike Tour kicked off the summer cycling season (even though our weather hasn’t fully turned warm yet, dangit). If you love nothing more than pounding the pavement on two wheels when the weather’s at its finest, here’s a roundup of other local bike events happening over the next few months. Take a seat and pop a wheelie through North Brooklyn!
BIKE THE BRANCHES | Saturday, May 20
Bike the Branches is a day for Brooklynites to unite and show love for our awesome public libraries. During Bike the Branches, every library branch will welcome you, and give you a place to gather, recharge and celebrate the diversity and strength of our beloved borough. They’ll have the usual Block Party, live music, food vendors, guided rides and prizes for participants of all ages. Proceeds from Bike the Branches help support Brooklyn Public Library’s 60+ branches and programming throughout the borough.
Here’s the North Brooklyn Tour, which includes the Greenpoint Library (107 Norman Ave) and the Leonard Library (81 Devoe St).
THE EPIC RIDE | Saturday, June 24
Ride 25-40 miles long Brooklyn’s waterfront from Greenpoint to Riis Park Beach! On The Epic Ride, you’ll discover hidden and far flung neighborhoods, pedal through city, state and national parks and take in spectacular bridge and city views along the Brooklyn Waterfront and Jamaica Bay Greenways. Continue the fun at The Epic After Party on the Rockaway beach boardwalk with bands, food, complimentary beer and take a dip in the sea. Riders will be fully supported by experienced marshals and mechanics along the route and refreshments will be offered at scenic rest stops.
BROOKLYN BIKE RAVE | Saturday, July 22
Bedazzle your bike, put on your craziest outfit, blast some party tunes and be ready for sensory overload at the Brooklyn Bike Rave, a glowtastic night ride along the Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway. Hundreds of cyclists will ride en masse along 7 miles of the Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway. Starting in Greenpoint, the group will ride through Williamsburg, travel inside the Brooklyn Navy Yard, through DUMBO and Brooklyn Bridge Park and loop back to finish under the iconic Archway under the Manhattan Bridge in DUMBO.
