Goodbye Greenpoint Cheese & Meat, Hello Monger’s Palate
Last week, Greenpoint Cheese and Meat closed its doors. It was a cheese lover’s dream, and your one stop Greenpoint shop for everything related to it – from meats, artisanal breads, sandwiches, and a well-curated selection of accompaniments and cheese-wares. It was here I discovered my favorite American cheese Kunik, and it was a reliable source for your picnicking needs or last minute gifts.
I’m going to miss its warm, cozy vibe and the spunky ladies behind it – Jessica and Ursula. But it looks like the legacy of Greenpoint Cheese & Meat will live on in Detroit as Curd & Cured.
Thankfully, we’re not being left in the lurch here in Greenpoint because Cheesemonger Lisa Griffin is taking over the same spot to bring us curd-nerdy stories, personalized cheese guide, old world staples, and a mix of international and domestic cheese makers. Plus classes and workshops about all things cheese.
Lisa is an American Cheese Society Certified Professional and earned her stripes at famed NYC’s Murray’s Cheese and then as General Manager at Lucy’s Whey Restaurant. We’ll be waxing poetic with Lisa about the art of the cheese plate next week when Monger’s Palate opens so stay tuned!
