In the quiet little back patio of the Greenpoint Reformed Church, Lineage Farm provides an abundance of fresh, high quality vegetables to Farm Share Members every Saturday morning from June to November. The farmers, Jen and Jon, pile the picnic tables high with their upstate harvest, and members select their choice of items to bring home for the week’s meals.
Lineage Farm offers a wide variety of vegetables over the season. From the leafy salad greens of spring, to the juicy tomatoes of summer, and earthy roots of autumn, the farmers grow over 40 different types of vegetables. Farm Share members join in the spring, signing up for 20 weekly deliveries of fresh harvested, organically grown vegetables. It’s a commitment, to the farmers, to their health, and to eating home-cooked meals – a commitment that members love even if they struggle with it. “We miss your vegetables so much over the winter!” or “I’ve never eaten so well in my life!” are both frequently heard comments. And the farmers are happy to be growing directly for the people who will be eating their crops.
Farm Share members have two options for share sizes. They can choose to join as full share members, and take home 10 items each week, or as small share members, and take home 5 items each week. An item may be a bunch of kale, 4 zucchini, 2 pounds of tomatoes or 2 pounds of potatoes. All members get to choose from the market-style display, which vegetables they will eat that week. Members are also connected with other sustainable, local farms through Lineage Farm’s collaborative add-on shares, and can opt in for weekly or monthly pastured egg shares, pastured beef shares, mixed meat shares, honey, maple syrup, and more! All add-on shares will be delivered to the same location on Milton Street as the vegetables.
This summer, Jen and Jon will be making their 100th trip to Greenpoint to deliver vegetables. We hope you will join them this season, for the wonderful weekly deliveries, and for the mid-summer celebration of their 100th delivery.
