The 9th Annual Dumpling Eating Contest takes place today on Saturday, September 15 at Smorgasburg in Williamsburg, from 1-4pm.
In addition to the first place winner in each of the men’s and women’s division receiving $1,000, the East River Ferry will match the highest number of dumplings eaten in ferry tickets (Each winner will receive the combined number, adding both the highest men’s and highest women’s number of dumplings eaten together).
And the best part is: all the proceeds from the event benefit Food Bank for New York City. Last year, $44,200 was raised for the Food Bank, which provided 230,000 meals to assist the 1.4 million people in New York that rely on soup kitchens and food pantries.
