I don’t know about you, but my favorite part of spring is being able to finally emerge from the dark and the cold to sit outside in the sun, preferably sipping on a nice saison and surrounded by greenery. I don’t ask for much. Luckily, Greenpoint is chock-full of great places to eat and drink outdoors, either in magical green gardens or on rooftops with stellar views. Here are a few places worth the trip.

Good for: Gorgeous semi-panoramic rooftop views and large groups.
This Australian-themed bar features an expansive rooftop with its own bar and wooden bench tables that channel something of a summer beach vibe. Gaze across the East River to watch the sunset over the city or to ponder the Empire State Building’s color of the day. Add a Beer & Shot into the mix for $10 during happy hour, grab an Aussie burger, and you’re set. Continue reading →

Nowadays, Greenpoint has a bewildering number of bars, but many of the best ones aren’t really places to watch a football game. So what makes a great sports bar where you can watch all the Sunday N.F.L action (or Monday night or Thursday night or Saturday College Football)? First, the bar has to have a big screen TV, preferably many TVs, so if you don’t root for the Giants or the Jets you can still catch your team’s game. Second, the bar’s gotta have good cheap beer and preferably some kind of beer and shot specials. Also, who doesn’t watch a football game without getting the munchies? A bar that serves pub grub has to rate higher than one that doesn’t. Finally, you want to watch with a good crowd, not in some mausoleum. With those categories in mind, here is a list of the top ten places to watch an N.F.L game! Continue reading →

Jordan emailed about t.b.d.’s upcoming 1,000lbs of Meat event this weekend. God, doesn’t that just sound awesome? Plus there’s a raffle benefiting the Wounded Warrior Project so you don’t have to feel all that guilty about gorging yourself of free food.
I’m writing to let you know about an event this Saturday in Greenpoint called “1,000lbs of Meat”. Basically, the folks at t.b.d. are going to grill up and give away 1,000lbs of burgers (and veggie burgers), hot dogs, Italian sausages, plus loads of sides & salads. While free food is great, there’s another part of the event that’s closer to my heart. They’ll be having a raffle to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project which is a non-profit dedicated to assisting injured service members. As a wounded warrior myself, I can attest to what a great organization it is.

I received an email from Greenpointer Jordan Chase, 1LT (RET) US Army, about a wonderful event he and his brother are throwing this Friday night. Definitely an amazing cause and as good a reason as any to party! Facebook event here.
My brother and I are Greenpoint guys, and also Iraqi veterans. We’re holding a fundraiser On Dec 10 at t.b.d. to support a non-profit that means a lot to us: The Wounded Warrior Project. It’s a group that was very good to me when I was recovering from a head wound that I received in battle. It really is a great cause and should be a lot of fun.
This holiday season, t.b.d. Brooklyn is hosting a night of fun…d-raising to benefit The Wounded Warrior Project that helps our injured veterans adjust to civilian life.
In addition to music, games and prizes, there’ll be a silent auction for really cool items — X box 360 Black Ops with Medal of Honor, The Pacific DVD Box Set, PlayStation 3 Army Controller, and more. And a raffle for gift certificates to local business.
$2 will get you in the door (and give you access to lots of drink specials). $25 donation will get you Wounded Warrior swag. And all the money we raise will go directly to the Wounded Warrior Project.

I am very excited to announce that North Brooklyn Public Art Coalition will be manning a benefit bake sale at t.b.d. this Saturday during the Great Greenpoint BBQrawl. All proceeds go towards funding the India Street Mural Project whose artists have been chosen and will start muralizing June 1st. I will be there with lemon tarts, coconut macaroons, chocolate mascarpone brownies, and baked donations from others so come one, come all and satisfy that sweet tooth, that alcoholic tendency, that burger hunger whilst supporting your local community!
