Cleaning out your closets for back to school? Bring everything over to Greencycle Swap! Bring some! Take some! One man’s trash is another man’s treasure. Recycle, reuse and reduce!
The next Greencycle “Back-to-School” Swap is happening this Saturday, September 9 at Leonard Library (81 Devoe St) from 12pm-3pm.
They’ll be accepting: Men’s, womens and children’s clothing, shoes, books, toys, bicycles, phones, household items and electronics. Electronics accepted until 2pm—cleaned, gently used and working items please. You don’t need to bring anything to take anything. However, out of consideration for others, they may limit folks to the greater of 1 bag or the number of bags that you have brought to donate to the swap. Continue reading →
By now, you’ve probably heard about the KonMari method of organization—Martha’s raved about it, Oprah’s into it, and social media has sure helped spreadtheword—but maybe you haven’t actually gotten around to putting any of those tips into action. It’s time to finally let go of that wacky-yet-aspirational outfit sitting unworn in the back of your closet, and those big “donation” bags sitting in the hallway that you never got around to dropping off. Load it up and bring it all over to the Greencycle Spring Cleaning Swap at the Greenpoint Public Library, and feel good about your stuff passing on to the next realm. You can even take stuff home too, if the absence of junk in your home leaves a hole in your heart.

Hey book lovers, here’s a save the date event just for you. Reader Bethany is organizing an all out book swap/benefit next month – BYOB: Bring Your Old Books – and wants to make sure you’re saving all your unwanted books during your spring cleaning.
The event is in Williamsburg on June 19th, but if anyone wants to donate books beforehand because they can’t make the event (or are moving, etc.), I’m allowing drop-off at my place in Greenpoint – I’ll haul them all up to Public Assembly the day of. Anyone who wants to do early donations, has questions, wants to donate a raffle prize etc. can email me [email protected]
If you’re able to come swap the day of, great! If you’d like to donate your gently used books without swapping, we’re looking for donations prior to/day of the event. Please email if you have books you would like to donate.
Also, if you know a business who wants to donate a raffle prize or books please let us know!
Greenpoint Church will hold a children’s clothing and toy swap on President’s Day, Monday, Feb. 18 from 12:00 – 4:00 p.m.
Please set aside your clean, gently worn and new items that your child no longer wears or uses. All baby and kids items 0-5 years are welcome (including shoes, books, toys, and all accessories). Swap and take home your favorites for free. All unclaimed items will donated directly to children in need at the Henry Street Settlement in Manhattan.
How the Swap will work: We will have tables set up with sections designated for age/size. Parents/caregivers will place their unwanted items in the appropriate age/size sections and then they are free to take any items from any other section. If you would like to bring your items to the church before the Swap, you may drop off items on Sunday, Feb. 17 between 1:00 and 4:00 p.m. and on Monday, Feb. 18 between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.
If you cannot attend the Swap and would like to donate your child’s items, we will make a few pick-ups. Please e-mail Jill Corson Lake at [email protected] to schedule a time.
