Two Greenpoint Landing buildings have reached a construction milestone — a vertical one. Both 33 Eagle and 21 Commercial Street have topped out.

Greenpoint is on the map for hot sauce in New York City. Though the resident expert at The Heatonist cautioned that there’s “no face-melting sauce coming out of New York City right now,” Paulie Gees favorite Mike’s Hot Honey represents some of the best of the Big Apple’s Big Pepper Ambitions.

Making locals proud is Rev. Ann Kansfield, the Fire Department’s first lesbian chaplain, who made the New York Times’ short list of New Yorkers of the Year.

At PS34, legos are serious business. The school even appointed a Lego Program Coordinator to help steward our next generation of little engineers.

Williamsburg: it’s hot. It’s a global brand. It’s getting “a new wave of huge luxury hotels…to cater to the influx of gawking globetrotters.”

“Eight hundred dollars for a room; it’s outrageous,” says this New York Times expose on renting in Greenpoint, which is, incredibly, written in 2015.

Hot Sauce, Summer in the City: A Scorching Afternoon with Heatonist

One of the great things about writing for Greenpointers is occasionally getting to watch dreams transform into reality.

When I first met Heatonist founder Noah Chaimberg, it was on a bitter, snowy Sunday morning back in February. He was shivering on the doorstep of a Wythe Avenue construction site, kindly waiting to greet me and explain his zany vision for a spicy future. He was part-way through a Kickstarter campaign, with the hope of raising enough funds to turn said construction site into a hot sauce tasting room and events space, complete with the world’s first hot sauce sommelier. Hot Stuff from Greenpoint: Heatonist to Launch a Hot Sauce Tasting Room

What’s your go-to condiment? Mustard? Ketchup? Mayo? Even those of us with the blandest of palates have to admit that these tame old options can get boring after a while. In an attempt to spice up mealtimes, a growing number of people have started obsessively reaching for hot sauce but, as flame-haired heat master Noah Chaimberg will tell you, a really good hot sauce is much more than just a condiment, it’s actually a ‘food that goes on food.’

Noah is the founder of Greenpoint-born company HEATONIST. He sources naturally-made hot sauces from suppliers around the world and has them all available for purchase.

Heatonist was founded in September 2013, and Noah started out by hosting tastings at local events such as Brooklyn Night Bazaar and Greenpointers markets. Then, last February, the online store was launched, and rapidly gained a cult following.

Following the success of the mail order service, the dream has now grown even bigger and Noah and his team are in the process of creating the Heatonist Hot Sauce Tasting Room, which they hope will become a kind of global HQ and clubhouse for hot sauce-lovers everywhere.

Noah is currently in the final week of a Kickstarter to raise funds for the new shop front. We caught up with him at the work-in-progress store located on Wythe Avenue to hear more about the venture and discover some little known secrets about the hot stuff. Continue reading
