An art show has debuted at Greenpoint’s newest commercial development, Franklin Point.
“soft weapons” (subtitled “Keep Your Fucking Hands Off My Body) commenced on October 18 and will run until November 22, curated by Cassandra Neyenesch and Lydia Nobles.
The show “is a 29-person group exhibition exploring how the politicized body, collective memory, and intimate relations operate as counterforces to surveillance, suppression, and systemic violence,” according to a press release.
KAPOW, a small gallery…

The need to include vulgar language in everything from the name of an art exhibit to perfunctory usage in movie scripts as a way of showing some imaginary authenticity or being edgy indicates a complete lack of imagination.
This reminds me of the art shows in Tribeca back in the ’90s. They would take place in empty storefronts on N. Moore, Franklin, Leonard and Walker Streets and feature crap by unknowns who never passed art class in grade school. The crowds were always the usual suspects: snobbish, affected fauxhemian types who all ogled the bronzed Greek diner coffee cups mounted on chipped marble stands as if they were masterpieces. Of course, everyone’s opinion was the same. Nobody uttered any critique which differed from the group. Doing so would expose them as uncultured dullards.
