The NYC Ferry plans to update its routes and wants to incorporate your feedback.

The NYC Economic Development Corporation will update the routes for the first time since 2017, which the agency says will speed up service. They put forward a new proposal, now open for public comment until Labor Day.

How might this impact Greenpoint? Currently, the NYC Ferry plans to split up the East River route (the one that runs through Greenpoint…

  1. Unless ey actually INCREASE the total number of daily boat trips, it looks to me like Greenpoint will get HALF the number r of boats stopping at our pier, but a slightly faster trip to East 34th Street and beyond, since our new route would would skip Hunters Point All in all this does NOT sound like a good deal for Greenpoint ferry riders. It means twice as much waiting time on that long long, long exposed pier, – which is horrible in adverse weather, without any real shelter from the elements. It’s a bad trade off to me. The Greenpoint ferry stop should be a ON the shoreline (no long pier)m with a shelter, somewhere near Transmitter park or Greenpoint Ave, similar to the shore-based landing at North Williamsburg. Many years ago there actually WAS a ferry service directly between the foot of Greenpoint Ave and Manhattan. Vote down this proposal when surveyed by Hornblower (the company who runs the service).

  2. North and South Williamsburg should always be available on the same line. Unless I’m reading it incorrectly, many seniors like myself depend on the ferry to get from N to S Williamsburg. This would be an enormous inconvenience for us and make life much harder.

  3. To me I agree with some of these changes. St George to Bay Ridge. I feel the South Brooklyn route should start in Bay Ridge and make all of the local stops just like before. The East river line should make all of the local stops and not split it into A and B. Soundview to Rockaway combined route is a good idea.

  4. When reduced priced tickets for seniors on ferry came into play some time ago, the city sent a rep. to our local senior center.

It was a joke. The rep., very nice person, spoke a different language re apps, red tape, reboots, tech lingo to the app. 100 people there. They were lucky if one or two people knew what they were talking about. Just about everybody pays full fair since they don’t know how to do it.

The city metro/omni bus/subway half price senior fare was rolled out much better.

  5. This is not great for connectivity between Williamsburg and Greenpoint for elderly and challenged people. Keep these stops connected in some way.

Also agree with the comments about reduced frequency at any of these stops, including Greenpoint. Standing out there in adverse conditions is miserable and has health impacts.

  6. I’m a senior citizen and rely on this route from Greenpoint to Williamsburg. Please save this most precious route. Thank you

  7. Please don’t exceed ferry departures longer than 20 minutes. It would be great to add extra ferry service during peak times in both directions.
