North Brooklyn, you are cordially invited to a birthday week celebration like no other for literary icon Dorothy Parker.
Today, August 17 from 6 p.m – 9 p.m, New York Distilling Company’s birthday bash honoring Parker is at their cocktail bar, The Shanty (79 Richardson St). Williamsburg’s very own craft spirit distillery has distilled Dorothy Parker Gin for nearly eleven years (around the same time they opened too).
Some come in your best Prohibition-era style outfit, and get a free souvenir flask of Dorothy Parker Gin. There will be a martini menu curated by the Shanty’s bar director, Marissa Mazzotta, using the New York Distilling Company’s Dorothy Parker New York Gin and Dorothy Parker Rose Petal Gin.
While you are enjoying those curated martinis, you can go on a tour of the operation led by Hannah Toale, New York Distilling’s Production Manager. The complimentary tour will focus on gin distillation and its historic link to urban distilling with a taste sample.
To add to the festivities, there will be a full oyster bar in partnership with Billion Oyster Project (who is also on deck tomorrow for a special dinner at Strangeways — learn more about them here).
New York Distilling Company will donate a portion of the evening’s proceeds to the organization. Enjoy a worthwhile pairing like no other; an oyster does make a martini better, especially free ones.
There are other events throughout the week to honor Dorothy Parker, so check them the annual Parkerfest, as it is called, and honor a beloved satirist legend.
