Green Bean Preschool (161 Greenpoint Ave.) has started a new chapter.   1. Not specifically relevant to this post – but as a Greenpoint parent of a soon to be 2nd grader at PS 34, I continue to be surprised at how prevelant gendered dress is in children. Our daughter will occasionally wear a dress but mostly wears neutral / “boyish” clothing. Of course she is constantly assumed to be a boy, which annoys me, and I wonder what affect this may have on her in the future. But from my experience it is decidedly a “top-down” decison to really ramp up the gendered clothing/appearances of our kids. I guess I’m surprised that this fairly conservative practice still is dominant — i suppose I shouldn’t be surprised. My two cents.
