As the end of summer is around the corner and the beginning of the school year approaches, teachers, students, and parents are busy getting supplies for their return to the classroom. A viral social media campaign launched in a Facebook group last July elevated the issue of teachers paying out of pocket for school supplies.
Kimberly Hock, a lifelong Greenpointer who teaches first grade at a public school in Far Rockaway, Queens reached out to Greenpointers to let us know about #ClearTheList, a social media campaign helping teachers purchase much-needed school supplies. Teachers across the country are creating project pages on DonorsChoose.org and wishlislists on Amazon.
We reached out to local schools including PS 31 (75 Meserole Ave.), PS 34 (131 Norman Ave.) and PS 110 (124 Monitor St.) to ask for teachers’ wishlists; PS 110 has yet to respond:
- Greenpointers and teachers, Kimberly Hock and Stephanie Babino, a 5th-grade teacher in South Jamaica, Queens.
- PS 31 teachers Daniella D’Agate – Christine Karantais, and Eric Duggan
- PS 34 has a school-wide wishlist.
- Williamsburg Prep earth science teacher Erica Restum.
If you know a teacher with a supply wishlist in Greenpoint, send an email to [email protected] and we will update the list.
