Andrea Packard (b. 1984), a fine artist who specializes in portraits and figurative oil paintings from life, was born and raised in Excelsior, Minnesota. George Underwood studied at the School of Visual Arts. Lives in Brooklyn. “Using a 4×5 field camera provides me the quality and richness of photography I fell in love with at the School of Visual Arts such as Joel Sternfeld, Jeff Wall, Matthew Pillsbury and other large format photographers. It gives me control over the image making process but also the flexibility and quickness to allow for chance to occur. Taking the time to compose thoughtfully detailed images that I am not fully in control of. Finding instances in a fast-paced contemporary lifestyle using an antiquated analog system. Through a mixture of landscapes, scenes and self-portraits I recontextualize the way we live and invite the viewer to revel in these moments. As the only child of a single mother, I grew up a quiet observer, most of my time spent alone, I learned to live comfortably in that space. I would explore my town observing its places and people always taking in what was going on around me. My mother instilled in me traditional values and a strong work ethic and as I entered high school fully consumed by the world the internet connected me to, I knew I needed to branch out. New York City provided me a new landscape and vast amounts to observe.”
Isaiah King: “I am a Canadian-born artist, graphic designer and animation designer living and working in Brooklyn, New York. My printmaking and drawing works pursue an ongoing study of the human form. I use multiple printmaking and drawing techniques, applying diverse and aggressive mark making to my figure studies. My design studio and practice build upon an assertion that art and design can play an important role in the elevation of deeper public discourse on social issues.”
Paul Richard is a Brooklyn based artist with a practice that goes beyond working in the studio. His work encompasses both Fine Art portrait painting as well as taking it to the streets.
