Remember the great philosopher pickle king, Nick Horman? And his call to “Think. Question. Pickle.” Well, Greenpoint, he’s BACK! This Sunday, November 29th, Horman’s Best Pickles returns to the McGolrick Park Winter Farmers Market.
This Sunday also marks the day when the market moves indoors to the Park Church Co-Op, formerly known as the Lutheran Church of the Messiah, located at 129 Russell Street. It’s right across the street from McGolrick Park, between Driggs and Nassau Avenues.
In addition to Horman’s Best Pickles, the winter farmers market will host Stone & Thistle Farm (pasture-raised meats), Orwasher’s Bread, Pie Lady & Son, and an array of local farmers. This weekend, Alex’s Tomato Farm and Jersey Farm Produce will join in with their delicious fruits and vegetables, farm fresh eggs, honey and more. AND winter favorites, D & J Farm, are coming back on Sunday with a selection that includes their amazing greens and vegetable dumplings, along with other popular foods. All of the vendors are local farmers and food makers, meaning they “travel to market and back in a day.”
The McGolrick Park Winter Farmers Market will be open every Sunday from November 29th through December 20th, 2015. In 2016, we’re going to try something new: the farmers market will be held once a month during first three months of the year. The 2016 winter market dates are: January 24th, February 21st, and March 20th. All the winter market dates will be held indoors at the Park Church Co-Op on Sundays from 10 am to 4 pm. The market will also continue to host textile recycling and compost drop-off (Note: compost drop off closes at 3 pm).
We anticipate rotating day vendors to join in during the winter season, too. MOMO Dressing will appear soon, as will Taiim Falafel Shack, a new vendor to the neighborhood from Hastings-on-Hudson, NY. To stay updated on the weekly vendor roster and market events, please visit the McGolrick Park Farmers Market page on the Down to Earth Markets website.
Happy Thanksgiving weekend, Greenpoint! May this be a joyful and peaceful holiday for all. On behalf of Down to Earth Markets, and the vendors at the McGolrick Park Farmers Market, thank YOU for supporting local farmers and food makers. As we enter 2016, we’re starting the 4th year of the market – you have made this possible! Thank you. See you Sunday.
