Michael Sullivan, chef of the new-to-the-neighborhood, Anella, is leaving our little Italian outpost. This sad tidbit from Grub Street was in my Greenpoint newsfeed today:

This just in from a rep of the chef:

Michael Sullivan, Chanterelle/Le Zinc alum and chef of Anella in Greenpoint, has departed the well-reviewed neighborhood trattoria’s stoves effective this past weekend, cooking his last brunch on Sunday, September 20th. Sullivan, now evaluating new culinary projects, plans to compete as an independent entrant in The Food Network’s New York Food and Wine Festival’s “Meatball Madness” Contest on October 9th, a spot he secured with the story of his Irish grandmother Dolly’s recipe, a fan favorite.

Good Luck to you, Mr. Sullivan, I hope your meatballs prove to be pure magic!
