I moved out of Greenpoint for a few months and then moved back to a house a block away from my old apartment.
Everything seems relatively unchanged. Five Leaves and Lokal are still here as are the dueling Rite Aids and my favorite fruit stand. But as I walked Manhattan Avenue this weekend, I spotted a new, fabulous gem (no pun intended): Bejeweled. I’m sure you all bought all your little sisters stocking stuffers there this holiday season, but for me, this discovery felt like Christmas day. We are talking rows and rows of earrings and necklaces in what I would classify as the best cheap jewelry store I have ever had the luxury of laying eyes upon.
As I perused the gilded aisles I found numerous items for purchase: little rose earrings, an ice cream cone necklace and a pair of gloves. I felt like I was back in 6th grade, had just been handed my allowance and was headed to Claire’s at the Alderwood mall. Bejeweled is every girl’s inner middle-schooler’s fantasy. I have been back several times and have spent a total of $30.00 there, which is hard to do because everything is so cheap. Next time you are thinking about renting The Notebook or Pretty Woman, I would advise you to take that $3.50 and hit up Bejeweled instead. Its seriously the gift that keeps on giving.
