If you love music, videos, community, innovation, and fun, I hope you follow The Wild Honey Pie. It is a Greenpoint-based “online publication, music media, and events promotion collective.” I recently spoke with founder/CEO Eric Weiner and editorial director/CFO Lauren McKinney at the Wild Honey Pie home office on Franklin Street. We talked about many things including their upcoming second season of On the Mountain, an interactive recording series that will feature six bands and provide free lodging, ski passes, and rentals to 100 lucky music fans to participate in the taping. Read on for the conversation and details on how you can be part of the event. Continue reading →
Every year The Diamond (43 Franklin St) – the Greenpoint bar with the gondola in the yard – organizes a ski trip to Plattekill Mountain in upstate New York, followed by an Aprés Ski Party. This year the after party involves a Mac n’ Cheese competition, live ski lounge music and free drinking for skiers from 8-10pm!
Over some delicious mulled wine, I chatted with bar owner and beer genius Dave Pollack about the three most important things in his life (this weekend) – skiing, beer, and mac n’ cheese.
This adventurous and cheesy day is happening this Saturday 1/25/14. Skiing is 6am-7pm. After party starts at 8pm. If you want to get in on this ski trip or enter your mac n’ cheese into the competition, email Dave dave (at) thediamondbrooklyn (dot) com. Continue reading →
It doesn’t look like we are getting any real NYC winter weather anytime soon, so if you’re craving (fake) snow and want to dust off your skis, head up to Plattekill with the folks from The Diamond Brooklyn. If you can’t make it out of town, join the Pré Ski party on 2/11, that includes Ugly Sweaters discounts and a Chili-Cook Off! Now that is a good time!
