Free Outdoor Film at Franklin Street Garden Next Week (7/26 & 7/27)

A new series of free environmental and sustainability focused films screening outdoors is returning to Franklin Street Community Garden (61 Franklin Street) next Thursday and Friday nights. The second in the film series, The Iron Triangle, a documentary depicting the slow and tragic demise of one of the city’s last great blighted areas, Willets Point, will screen on both nights, with doors at 8:30pm and the film beginning at 8:45pm. Get green this weekend and help the trees!

Want to be a tree steward? Well, your time has come! This Saturday, October 18th between 10 am and 1 pm, join the 61 Franklin Street Community Garden and together you can make Greenpoint a little greener.

Ask any gardener and they will tell you Autumn is the perfect time to get into the garden and put things into the ground. As the cold air moves in, plants go dormant, and quietly over the winter these little plants work on growing strong roots so that come springtime we can sit back and admire their precious blooms.

In an effort to keep Greenpoint’s trees and root systems happy for years to come, the Franklin Street Community Garden is freshening up tree beds around the area by planting daffodils. Not only will Greenpoint’s trees thank you for it, but come springtime the streets will be bursting with bright yellow flowers. It almost enough to make you forget that winter is coming! Garden to Table Dinner at Franklin Street Community Garden (09/12)

Garden_To_Dinner_GreenpointThe lovely folk at Franklin Street Community Garden invite you to join them for a ‘Garden to Table’ dinner this week to benefit the The Greenpoint Reformed Church Soup Kitchen.

The wonderful al fresco meal will take place on Friday 12th September at 7pm and will feature fresh produce from their community garden, with meat from Sun Fed Beef and additional produce donated by North Brooklyn Farms. Continue reading
