Smorgasburg Reverses Course and Transmitter Park’s Pending Café

There has been a lot of talk about Smorgasburg and East River State Park lately. Two weekends ago, the company behind Brooklyn Flea, the outdoor market that spun off Smorgasburg, decided to combine the two markets into one massive Saturday market. This move sent ripples through the North Brooklyn community as it made the southern end of East River Park completely unusable for locals. Luckily, after Smorgasburg/Brooklyn Flea combo was reported about, the founders heard the neighborhood’s complaints and decided to break the markets back up into two. Now the neighborhood needs to turn its attention to a much bigger fight happening with Transmitter Park. Continue reading

TASTE Williamsburg Greenpoint This Sunday (09/07)

There’s a trillion great places to eat and drink in the area, but rarely enough time (or stomach space) to give everywhere a try. That’s why this Sunday’s Taste Williamsburg Greenpoint event is a splendid idea. Now in its 5th year, the East River State Park flavor extravaganza will host stalls from dozens of local restaurants, bars and makers all offering appetizer-sized tastes of their delicious wares.

Among the 50+ vendors you’ll find The Elm, Reynard, Extra Fancy, Maison Premiere and Brooklyn Winery, along with Greenpoint gems such as Bakeri, Ovenly, Dirck The Norseman, No Name Bar, and our all-time favorite ice cream makers Phin and Phebes. Continue reading
