There’s no better draw for a cool, fun-loving crowd than art and booze. Greenpoint Gallery Night, which we are once again media sponsors for, returns this Friday (3/20) from 7-10PM to bring this winning combo to our cozy little neighborhood.  Several local galleries and businesses open up their doors after normal operating hours to give Greenpoint the opportunity to start the evening immersed in art, while sampling tasty, boozy libations along the way. So join us in kicking off the weekend with great drinks in great company, while getting a glimpse of what the art world in Greenpoint has to offer!  RSVP here.

While each location is in close proximity to one another, we want to be sure to hit up every spot so have strategized a route for the most efficient art crawl.

Here’s our guide:

Happy Birthday 5 Leaves! Cocktail Specials Today (9/17)

5 Leaves is five years old today. I remember the first time I ate there, probably that long ago, and was blown away by the food, atmosphere, cocktails and the location. A lot has changed in the neighborhood in 5 years, but 5 Leaves still has incredible service and food. I want the ricotta pancakes and the Bees Knees cocktail right now!

In honor of its birthday the bar will be creating new takes on old favorites. According to owner Kathy Mecham,  “The Moscow Mule, Cuban Sidecar, Pomegranate Martini and Calvados Sidecar are all being taken apart and put back together in new ways … All Anniversary cocktails will be available for one night only for $10 each.”

Cheers! To many many more birthdays!

New Orleans’ Swamp Donkeys Ass-Whipping’ Live Jass at The Exley Tonight! (6/20)

In what we hope will be the first of many live, unamplified and ass-whipping music shows, The Exley (1 Jackson St) proudly presents The New Orleans Swamp Donkey’s Traditional Jass Band.

Following recent NYC shows at Sullivan Hall, The Radegast Beer Hall and SOHO House, the Swamp Donkeys will play their unique version of traditional New Orleans Jazz from 8-11pm on Thursday June 20th at The Exley (1 Jackson Street, b/w Union and Meeker).

Everything happens on the front patio– live music, $8 aged Sazerac cocktails, and expertly (i.e. drunkenly) grilled hot dogs. No Cover charge although the band is known to appreciate tips, CD purchases, smiles, and dancing. Join us on a perfect NYC summer night of booze, humidity, food, and great live music. Get an idea of what you’re in store for in the video below.

Wooden Anniversary Weekend at The Diamond

Do ya’ll love The Diamond Bar as much as Greenpointers does? Then come celebrate the bar’s Wooden Anniversary all weekend long! We will be there.

Check out this sweet t-shirt you can score. (Only adult sizes.)

We chatted with Diamond owner Dave Pollack:

GP: Why did you pick Greenpoint to open The Diamond?

Dave: We left nyc after living in eat village for many years to open this bar on the eastern shore of CT. We were going to be a big fish in a small pond. We both had history there. Changed our minds and move back to nyc. This time we settled in Greenpoint at Freeman St and Manhattan Ave. I worked at Spuyten Duyvil and was always captivated when my car service short cutted through Banker St to bring me home. Found the space then looked at a bunch of other spots and it turned out that the first place we looked at was the best!

GP: How has Greenpoint treated you in the last 5 years?

Dave: Incredibly well. I am so happy with our customers. Lots of really loyal folks and although we have gotten busier and busier, the crowd has generally remained full of cool friendly people. Continue reading
