The time has come to cast your ballot in New York City’s primary elections this year.
Tomorrow, June 23, is primary day, the last day to vote. You can check your nearest poll site here.
But before you go, brush up on your knowledge of the local candidates running to represent Greenpoint and Williamsburg. One of the city’s most widely watched races happens to be in our own backyard, as the race to replace Nydia Velázquez in Congress pits progressive against progressive in New York’s 7th district. Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso (Velázquez’s hand-picked successor) and Assemblymember Claire Valdez (with the backing of Mayor Zohran Mamdani and the DSA) are neck-and-neck in the polls.Â
Things are certainly getting messy, but that’s not our style at Greenpointers (at least, not publicly 😉).Â
Public defender Vichal Kumar and City Council Member Julie Won have also thrown their hat into the ring. You can find our interviews with all the candidates here.
There’s another (less flashy) race happening, too, for State Assembly District 50.
First elected in 2020, incumbent assemblymember Emily Gallagher has successfully staved off challengers since. Local attorney Andrew Bodiford ran to replace her in 2024 and is running again this year. We sent both candidates a questionnaire, and you can read their responses here.
Greenpointers does not endorse candidates or accept campaign advertising, ensuring our coverage remains independent.
