Dear Greenpointers, how are you spending the last days of summer? I myself have been catching those breathtaking sunsets at Transmitter Park. Those hues of pinks and oranges…how are we this lucky?

Be sure to get out and about this weekend! Here’s a list of hand-picked events just for you.

Saturday, August 27

Have you been curious about how the New Moon is affecting your life this month? Get your readings done this Saturday 12 – 5 p.m. at YARO studios (76 Kent Street). A 30-minute session will run you $33. Set new intentions and start a new 30-day cycle strong. Secure your spot here!

The Boiler (191 North 14th Street) is a space in Greenpoint to gather STEAM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, that is). This Saturday from 2 – 4 p.m., you’ll get a chance to “Visit the Mobile Alchemy Research Station (M.A.R.S.)” with artist Lukas Milanak.

Lukas will demonstrate, with some help from ELM students, the melting, coloring, and shaping of molten glass in an attempt to create the fabled “Philosopher’s Stone,” all while explaining the physics and chemistry of glass. Be the cool kid and geek out this weekend! RSVP here.

Exhibit Salon (182 Driggs Avenue) will be having their Cut-a-thon this Sunday from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.! All haircuts are priced at $50 and all proceeds go to North Brooklyn Mutual Aid. DM Exhibit Salon to reserve your slot!

If you’re a stylist or local business who would like to get involved, slide into their DMs as well.

Union Pool (484 Union Avenue) is back in business after that unfortunate fire. They are starting this new phase on the right foot. This Sunday, 2 – 6 p.m., the good people are hosting a toy drive for the children of asylum seekers.

As you might have already read, NYC has been receiving numerous asylum seekers. After a long grueling journey, it is the hope that your toy donations can bring a smile to these little ones. After donating, hang out and enjoy their Summer Thunder show!

Big Night (154 Franklin Street) turns one! Join in this birthday celebration Sunday, 2 – 4 p.m. The Big Night team will be slinging free ice cream from Bad Habit to all who come through. You’ll also get a chance to leave with limited edition Big Night tees, totes, and new friends! See you there.

  1. The big night celebration was fabulous. Thanks to the Greenpointers for printing the event particulars and the organizers of the event. It was exactly was it was promoted to be. Many times it is not.
