True to both Greenpoint charm and the undeniable pull of an NYC speakeasy concept, Jason Mojica of Hey Kids! Comics has opened a bookeasy — a vintage bookstore “hidden” in (where else?) a bodega.
Burnt Books, featuring vintage paperbacks spanning sci-fi to art and beyond, is a manifestation of Mojica’s desire to open a used bookstore thwarted by the reality of rising rent prices. Thus, his partnership with Green Discount Corp. at 1014 Manhattan Ave was born.
The only indication that the store carries anything other than discounted sundries and an impressive array of snacks is a spray-painted sign on the sidewalk, so keep your eyes peeled on your next munchies run.
