The Greenpoint YMCA (99 Meserole Ave.) will host its 3rd annual Spirit of Community Service Awards Dinner, “a celebration of lives impacted by the Y and the heroes who make it happen along the way.” The event takes place on Wednesday, Dec. 5, at 6:30 p.m. at Giando on the Water (400 Kent Ave.), tickets are available.

The funds raised go toward helping North Brooklyn children and their families with after-school activities that include swimming and early childhood and summer camp scholarships.

The honorees are recognized for their contributions toward healthy living and youth development in the North Brooklyn community. This year’s honorees are:

  • Assemblyman Joseph Lentol
    • A huge supporter of the Y and of all community programs.
    • Supports the Y’s programs in childhood obesity and early childhood education.
  • Martha Holstein
    • Was a Greenpoint Y Board member for several years.
    • Awarded the Adult Volunteer Award from the YMCA of Greater NY in 2013.
  • Broadway Stages
    • A supporter of Y programs especially the environmental programs such as the SYSTEM  (Summer Youth in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Program.
    • A supporter of STEM in afterschool programs and Summer Camp.
  • Donald Minerva
    • President of Supreme Management & Development Corp., a Brooklyn based real estate management and development company.
    • A supporter of STEM in afterschool programs and Summer Camp.
    • Involved in different aspects of real estate rehabilitation business since 1975. He is also involved and dedicated to developing housing for the homeless for the last 30 years.
