C#@R CANCER: Market Dishes Out Arctic Char for Breast Cancer Awareness

October is the busiest commemorative month of the year, and launches us into fall with Domestic Violence Awareness Month, LGBTQ History Month, Breastfeeding Awareness Month, and as you may already know, Breast Cancer Awareness month.

With almost 9,000 expected cases of breast cancer in Brooklyn alone, Greenpoint Fish & Lobster Co. sees this as an important month to commemorate. They’re joining the cause this month by donating 10% of the proceeds of their Arctic Char Crudo to the National Breast Cancer Foundation for the rest of October.

“Cancer has directly affected so many people, my own family included, and it’s important to us to support Breast Cancer Awareness month,” said Adam Geringer-Dunn, Executive Chef and co-owner of Greenpoint Fish & Lobster Co. along with Vinny Dunn. And what about the dish itself? “We love the arctic char crudo dish. It is so simple and yet is visually stunning and absolutely delicious.”

You’ll love it too: for $9, this fresh market fish is thinly sliced and served raw, dressed with extra virgin olive oil, citrus, Maldon sea salt, and microgreens. As tasty and buttery with Omega-3s as it is, arctic char is also a delicious choice for conscious diners. It’s one of the few farmed fish available that’s sustainably raised, and received the highest sustainability rating from the “Seafood Watch” program run by the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Not to mention, Omega-3s have a ton of health benefits and may reduce risk of breast cancer.

The sea salt lightly cuts the tartness of the citrus, while the microgreens brings the freshness. Add the EEVO and natural richness of the delicately sliced char served crudo—in its simplest purest form—and you’re in for a crisp fall treat, all for a savory cause.
