I’m already starting to fill up my social calendar with the next three weekends planned out nicely. But here are some more upcoming September things going on around town.
The end of Town Square’s SummerStarz 2008 is tomorrow night (Weds 9/10) and what better way to sign off with Polish Night?
“We’ve got a wonderful evening, kicking off with the PSC Judo for Children’s Hour (6 pm), the Polish American Folk Dance Company for a lovely live show and an outdoor screening of “Pan Tadeusz” at sunset. SummerStarz 2008 is held on the McCARREN PARK LAWN (Bedford/Lorimer/Driggs). The weather’s looking great. Bring your picnic dinners and blankets to the park!”
On Saturday (9/13), it’s Fire Safety Day with the FDNY from 11am – 3pm at Lutheran Church of the Messiah “Join the FDNY for a educational program designed to teach children important aspects of fire safety. The Fire Safety House is a mobile, fire safety education tool. Demonstrations are conducted by FDNY fire fighters.” Refreshements & Prizes!
Lisanne my buddy over at Found In Brooklyn posted about the Clifton Place Memorial Gardens Fund Raising Event Flea Market coming this Saturday (9/13). And in the event of rain (which looks like it might be a possibility), the raindate is the following Saturday (9/20).
This Sunday (9/14) from 10-6pm is the Brooklyn Book Festival for the bibliophiles. Located at Brooklyn’s Borough Hall and Plaza 209 Joralemon Street, this is a “huge, free public event presenting an array of literary stars and emerging authors who represent the exciting world of literature today. One of America’s premier literary and literacy events, this hip, smart, diverse gathering attracts thousands of book lovers of all ages. The festival is organized around themed readings and devoted to timely and lively panel discussions. The inclusion of top national and international authors and new partners has expanded the festival’s reach while continuing to celebrate and enhance Brooklyn’s contemporary and historic literary reputation.”

Next Saturday (9/20) there’s the first ever SchoolFEST from 11am – 4pm (Rain date 9/27). This is a big event for the parents and kids of Greenpoint and Williamsburg.
This is going to be a great event, the first time that all schools in Greenpoint & Williamsburg (day care to high schools, public & private) have been invited to a single venue to get the word out to parents about their schools and programs.
We’ve got over 40 schools, day care centers, & afterschool programs waiting for you. The location is Grand Street campus (Grand & Bushwick).
There’ll be a carnival, food & live entertainment to boot. It’ll be a fun educational day for everyone.
Then Saturday 9/27 is the 12th Annual Kent Street Festival hosted by The Church of the Ascension. Always nice to hit the small block long festival on Satruday afternoon. There’s street vendors, games & rides for the kiddies, live music and there’s always more than a few folks on the block having a stoop sale at the same time.
And it begs to be mentioned that the Mets last regular season game at Shea will be on Sunday September 28th. Me and the fam-a-lam gots tickets and I bet I’ll even shed a tear for my last time at Shea.

here’s an event happening in Northern Greenpoint on the corner of Manhattan Ave and Freeman…Mourning the loss of my closest corner bodega. The One Stop at 1047 Manhattan Ave closed this past weekend and has not opened back up as it probably won’t as a notice from the DOB was posted saying the entire building was deemed uninhabitable!
thats a bummer – but the building did like like it was going to collapse.
BTW – its still summer, Fall starts on the 22nd.
Yeah I know it’s not officially Fall yet but once the kids go back to school it just *feels* like it.

Here’s another event happening this coming weekend for parents interested in daycare/preschools. ABC Child Center, Inc. (109 Nassau Avenue – between Eckford and Leonard Streets) is hosting an OPEN HOUSE for interested parents from 2 – 4:30pm. They take kids starting at 2 years old.
